Topic Dog Boards / General / Pet Passport scheme from Oz to UK
- By Lily Munster [gb] Date 10.05.02 21:41 UTC
Does anyone know of how the scheme is running between here and Australia? This country is included but I haven't heard of any direct link from Oz ro Britain, so how do dogs get here without having to do quarantine, does anyone know?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 11.05.02 09:07 UTC
I beleive in cases where there is no carrier signed up to the scheme, that the dog can come into Quarantine, and be released once paperwork checked, a couple of days. You do then have the expense of quarantine collection and the Vet expenses and daily Q charge.

The pup 3 friends and I have in Q cost £200 to have him picked up! th Q is about £10 a day!

I know someone who has imported a male elkhound from Norway on Pets, and there is no direct carrier.

I will email him to find out what happened!

Let's see if I get this right --first time doing it this way :D

DEFRA Long Haul Countries PETS eligible

Click on Pet Travel Scheme & then Long Haul Countries -- It wouldn't link directly here, just to the main index.
If you scroll down on the page, there's links to Procedure & FAQs

Hope this helps
toodles

Another way is to click on quarantine in the side panel, then early release!

Christine, you might find this organisation of some interest:

IPATA ~ Independant Pet and Animal Transportation Association International.

Have a word with Jonathan Shaw too. He is a licensed carrier, so will know what the score is :-)

PS: If your off to Oz, don't forget I'm coming too <g>

Hi Lilly, I was interested in importing a Dobe from Oz but when I went into it the dog has to go into quarantine kennels for 6 months.

Pet passport is still only valid in most EEC countries or at least most of them (I am not sure about Turkey).

I'm not planning to go to Oz, just forward planning for a maybe litter in 2004. Australia and New Zealand are included in the PPScheme but I knew there was no direct carrier. Aussie dogs have come into Britain through this but how was it done???
Thanks everyone for their help again!

It's covered in Early release on the defra site, under quarantine!

Still waiting to find out what the chap did bringing his dog in from Norway!

You are incorrect, Australia and NZ dogs can come in under PETS rules, but there is no carrier that has an approved route in. So they can do all the PETS stuf, and then stay a short time in Q (a matter of days). The six months from satisfactory blood tests, before a dog can enter the country goes without saying, as that is the main principle behind the scheme.

So am I correct in understanding what your saying brainless..

The pasport is valid but because the plane comes through different countries they have to go in kennels for a non-specific period?

Possibly I misunderstood DEFFRA, I might even have asked if there was quarantine cause its an island and as far as I know Rabbies free.

I'll call them tommorow.

According to DEFFRA at East Grinstead 0845 933 5577, the pet travell scheme does apply from OZ.

We can bring a dog in direct from the following cities and providing you transport on QUANTAS and fly direct via Singapore there is no quarantine kennel at all at this end, straight off plane and that’s it.

The dog must fly from, Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Perth or Sydney. DEFFRA suggest to contact Quantas for more details.

Thanks, you've given me a something to mull over for the future now. Wonder why Melbourne isn't included? Australia is a hell of a big country, driving from Melbourne to Adelaide can take 9+ hours!:)
- By avaunt [gb] Date 13.05.02 18:58 UTC
Sorry Lilly Melbourne is included, I just scribbled as I wrote them down.

Avaunt... just FYI --
Turkey's not an EEC member. (not wealthy or economically stable enough -- although inclusion of Greece does boggle the mind)
This is the list of Member states & all are good for pet passport: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom. And as you all well know, UK & Denmark retain sovereign currencies. All others are on Euro. :D There are other countries that have applicability too, but they are not EEC members
- By avaunt [gb] Date 15.05.02 05:30 UTC
Yes I wasn't sure about Turkey, I get mixed up with nato, which other countries are included??
- By Brainless [gb] Date 15.05.02 09:08 UTC
It is all on the Defra site posted above :D
- By Promitheas [gr] Date 28.03.03 11:52 UTC
Just a note:
Greece has had the last 2 years the third most stable economy among the EC (not EEC anymore) countries. Its economy is more stable than that of Germany or italy for example so I don't see why there should be a "mindboggling"! :)
