Totally immature:rolleyes: stupid question but....

Murfee is an avid, addictive sniffer. From the minute I get up in the morning to last thing at night, he is compelled to sniff me, the furniture, OH & kids, newspapers, clean & dirty clothes, you name it, he sniffs it. Yet doesn't sniff much when he's out. I know why dogs sniff but he gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "sniffer dog".

I sat down this morning after a mammoth grooming session and he started his usual, so I sniffed him back - Yes I know, downright childish - to say he took umbrage is an understatement:rolleyes: He barked and air snapped and then went completely silly. He's still eyeing me now as if to say, "dare do it again".

Tried it with Callia - wanted to see if it was unique to him -she's done the opposite, moved away from me with a very quizzical look on her face and then laid down and sulked. I went up for a kiss and the look of disgust said it all. Have since made up with her and promised never to do it again, didn't realise how much it would upset her.

I was quite fascinated (sad, I know) by their reactions.

I Wonder, in their eyes what it meant, apart from me doing something they didn't understand. Was I unwittingly threatening them? Suppose it's the equivalent of them trying to mimic human behaviour with me.

Both my two are great bowers and when I get on the floor and bow at them, they take the cue for a game. I

Has anybody else done something similar in play with their dog and got an unexpected response?

I've grown up with Holly since I was a kid, so she's used to me acting like a dog around her! She doesn't react at all if I sniff her or "bow" to her... she just thinks I'm mad :D she might have a point there LOL :D

LOL@ T/S :D

Pleased mine aren't the only ones that don't like being sniffed. They're more than used to me being stoopid and using specific voices for each dog "duh"

Would love to crawl inside their minds for a day and hear what they really think - or perhaps I wouldn't:eek:

Have read a lot about "dog listeners" ie, people that can tell you what you're dog is thinking and feeling, I think I'd  be too embarrassed to go *blushes* often said it's a good job my dogs can't talk humanese :D

My dog goes nuts if he is stood at the top of the stairs and you go up halfway and then put your hands on the steps in front of you.  He runs around like a loony and mimics everthing youdo.  The other thing he does is if you pretend to sneeze in front of him he does the same :D :D

Mine loves it when you sniff her back, you get a full tail wag of appreciation and a great deal of kisses for giving her a sniff :-D

I've sniffed back and didn't get much of a reaction.  I do the bow thing and she gets very excited - one of two things will happen.  Either she'll frantically go looking for a toy to bring me to play with or she'll jump on my head for a bit of rough and tumble :D
