Had scary moment as coming out of the local supermarket/gardencentre today. The brakes on the car decided to fail. Fortunately was only doing abou 15mph so could stop using the clutch and handbrake. I managed to clutch drive half way home before it became too dangerous at which point had to pull over and call the AA. They were helpful and out within half an hour. The 40 min trip to get essential food for me and supplies for the small animals turned into a nightmare i hope not to repeat. Just glad the dog wasnt in the car with me!

Thankfully you wasn't going fast :-)

My alternator went on me at some traffic lights, I went to turn right and the car carried on  my steering went really heavy.....so i tried to get back home and the car died on me.....at the time i didn't know it was the alternator, and luckily when the car broke down i was opposite a garage.....he sold me a battery to get me home, then my hubby had to ask the neighbour to take him to buy a new alternator :-)

It's so scary when you break down and your on your own.

Hi all

Thanks for the replies

Mechanic came out to home yesterday and both brake cylinders had died completely likewise 2 brake shoes (think same as brake pads but not sure!?!?!) had to be replaced.
Pretty typical really of when you decide you want to upgrade to a newer/bigger car sometime soon something major will go wrong with your current one.

Will soon see if the mechanic has done his job - dog training in t minus 120 minutes - drive time 20mins away, lol

Ahhh poor you.

I remember years ago we my mum and I went to view a Pomeranian.  She wasn't a very good example but the circumstances that she was living in made us take her.  Well we were 5 minutes from home when the fan belt went, steam everywhere!  We were on the slip road of the motorway and there we were running down the sliproad thinking that the car was going to blow up :d  That was about 22 years ago and I remember it as though it was yesterday.  Mum and I always laugh when we drive past the point that it happened.
