ANY ADVICE PLEASE
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 11.01.06 16:58 UTC
Hi Helen are you looking for another BC or is that too difficult for you? Whichever breed you choose I would advise you to contact the breed clubs to get names of reputable members who breed .
Best Wishes

Helena
I am sorry for your loss.Firstly Please ask your vet how long your home should be dog free after you have had a pup with distemper...you wouldn't want to have a new pup become infected
Next...as advised contact the breed club and ask their advice. They will tell you all about neccessary tests required and point you in the direction of a REPUTABLE breeder

Thanks
been disenfecting everything (solution given to me by the vets)
chucked out Billy's bed, bowls, toys, blanket, towel, etc
will disenfect again in a week (vet said i only need to do this once but wont do any harm)
told me to wait a month before getting any pet
i will get a list of reputable breeders in my area from the kennel club and start looking in 3-4 weeks
with a veiw to purchase at the end of March
May go for a Border Collie (depends of how much he/She reminds me of Billy)
had a x lab/alsation 20 years ago who lived till she was 16 NEVER VISITED THE VET EVER WITH HER!!!!
Thanks for your advice

Hi Helen
Please contact the breed club, not the KC as the list of breeders they will have will NOT have been checked out in any way and can include anyone who has paid their fee, that even means puppy farmers.

Hi Helen
I am so sorry that you lost your puppy, poor little soul.
As an occasional breeder, please could I ask you to make sure you disinfect your car, shoes, in fact anything you can think of, before you go and look at more puppies.  One of mine got parvo (5 months old and vaccinated) and a friend lost the majority of one of her litters to it, so I am paranoid about anything like that.  In fact, I spray people's shoes when I have pups, ensure they wash their hands, etc, before they come near my babies.
Best of luck in your search for a pup, and I agree with Goldmali about using the breed clubs.

I've only been on this website less than a week and i am overwhelmed with not only the love and care you all talk about but the great amount of support too for me and each other
THANKS!!!

Billy was carried in a cardboard box in and out of my car but will still disenfect it and anything else i can think of (THANKS FOR THAT ADVICE!)

I will disenfect the house again next week too!

A work collegue bought a pit bull terrier pup many years ago, after the first week he went off his food, she took him to the vet after many tests and a huge bill, cancer was diagnosed and the dog was pts

I guess even with the jabs, health checks etc things can still go wrong- i have even thought if i got this much attatched to a pup after 1 day maybe its not for me anymore

I'm not giving up yet!
