Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / which would be best a dog/bitch?
- By guest [gb] Date 10.05.02 08:45 UTC
I have a westie bitch and am keen to have another dog (not a westie). Would a male or female be more likely to integrate?. I have had conflicting advice. I have kept 2 westie bitches together before, but it seems I was perhaps lucky that they got along. Other opinion is that the personality of the dogs is the defining factor. Has anyone any advice for me?

I am sure Westie lovers on this board will advise specifics. If you enjoy and are happy with owning bitches have another bitch. I own several generations of bitches with no problems.

A friend who has just got a puppy bitch to keep her Male dobe company, as her two oldies won't last much longer, has had trouble with them getting on, as the pup is very pushy, and the male has always been very soft, so he looses his rag with her. If he was generally more forceful, she wouldn't be taking such liberties, which she doesn't with the old girls!

The coice as they say, is yours (bearing in mind that if you have an entire bitch, it is best to have one or other neutered if you get a male).

Hi, I think that a second dog should ideally be of the opposite sex. Often two bitches or even two males will get along fine but you do raise the odds of success quite a bit by having the opposite sex.
