at the risk of showing my total ignorance, what does cording mean?

It's where the coat isn't fluffed out but twisted into cords, rather like a Puli or a Komondor. It was very popular in the distant past, and some people are reviving it. Image.

Thanks for the image link, JG :) I think it looks great. How do you 'groom' a corded coat though??

I was told you never brush it, just twist and rub the hair as it grows, making sure you part it right down to the skin. Apparently it's very therapeutic when you're watching TV with the dog on your lap! :D

You don't 'groom' it.  You spend hours splitting the cords into even sized sausages!  The only problem is that they take HOURS to dry when you bath them.  Apart from that, they are easy to look after - says she who used to have a Puli!! :)

Spanish Water Dogs coats do cord :d  I would think tht the Poodle's is like the SWD's so a bit easier to cord than the Puli's and Komondor's as the cords aren't as thick.

they were saying if you get a thick cord you just split it into two & carry on. i think it looked amazing down to the ground!
