Topic Other Boards / Foo / Landscape garden ideas/times when to do etc

Hi

I have recently moved into a new house which has a very large garden.  I quite like gardening but when I seen the plot picture from the builders the size of the garden looks like a normal size garden however what I got is huge lol.  All it is at the moment is lawn with a few make shift boraders dug out which my partner decided to do the day we moved in and got bored! Typical.

As I work for myself its really difficult to be around to have people come round etc and measure and design some idea etc.  My firends aunt used a service on the net where she sent of photos and sizes of the garden and got a design back with a picture of what the garden would look like and recommendations for plants etc.  Unfortunatly she had her computer stolen and has no record of the company etc.  I was wondering if anyone had done this before or if we have any avid garden designers out there who offer this service etc who might be able to pm me.

Gulp dont know if I can live up to the expectations LMAO Mainly do this face to face seeing garden lol
Well, if its a new house i bet you have a patio big enough to get one chair on ;)
What anyone would need to know (and this is a very quick list inbetween cooking dinner)
1. how much time per week can you spend in your garden including lawn cutting
2. which way is it facing
3. how much do your DOGS rip it up ;) Bearing in mind new lawns are more seseptable to bitches urine
4.Do you like pruning
5. Do you like flowers, ie annuals
6. how much entertaoining do you do??? Ie how much patio you need???
7 What sort of garden do you like - country style, modern???
8. Do you want a water feature of any kind?
9 Do you want out door lighting
10. type of soil??? - easiest way to see that is wait for summer and look at hydrangers - Pink = alchaline Blue = acidic Pink and blue on one flower you need a tester kit LOL
11. where gets the sun at what time of day ??? as if it gets it at the far corner of the garden  away from the house in the evening and you like sitting in the sun in the evening there is no point in putting a shed there!!!!
12. are your dogs kenneled if so where would that go?
13. Have you somewhere to store your tools, if not where would the hard standing for a shed go??
14. Can you do alot of the work yourself?
15. Plants, sdo you like trawling garden centres and buying plants yourself ??? Or would you want it planted up?? i can plant a HGarden up and spend £5-600 on the plants alone, and that is for a relatively small garden,(that was for a guy who wanted instant impact and stated they would need moving in 2-3 years, I went back before Xmas 2 1/2 years later and moved and removed a load of plants as it was getting over crowded!!) The plants i got for that garden could probably stock a medium sized garden with plenty of room inbetween to mature.
16. Do you play any sports/hobbies in the garden that need to be considered???
17. Are you planning on a conservatory??? No point in putting down a patio for £3k and ripping it back up a year later to put a conservatory on (this is done quite regularily and we have to go back and relay it
18. Do you like decking???? And will you be able to keep it maintained, bearing in mind if it is in a sheltered spot it will go green and if it is constantly wet and never dry out it wont last that long. Ideally to keep it at its best it needs treating every year at the same time as your fences. And dog urine will soak into it and you may not get rid of the smell.
Um um may come back with some more!!!!!
If people are at work all the time we do sometimes go and see them on a saturday or sunday, Evenings if it is summer time. Would be dubious if someone couldnt come and see you at a time that suits you as long as you are willing to wait a few weeks as i tend to think they wouldnt be very accomodating at your ideas!!!
Dont know if that is any use to you??????
