Topic Dog Boards / Health / Need help - Dog & bowel movements after cruciate Op
- By baileyspaws [in] Date 06.01.06 01:52 UTC
Our Golden Retriever pet dog (Bailey) has just had anterior cruciate ligament surgery (On rear knee) yesterday morning & we are looking for guidance as to how we can assist him in having a bowel movement without causing him any further distress?
Can someone please help?

Hi
When my Bullmastiff had her cruciate repair.I used to sling a large towel under her belly for support & with a person either side of her holding the towel we wold shuffle out the back. She wasnt very impressed at first but probably thought that desperate situations call for desperate measures &she soon got used to it.It was the only way she could go for a while until she could put some weight on the leg. Then we had to do it all again when the other leg was done too.
She is fine now.

We just hung around to help my Lab  the first day or so I think we did the towel thing too (was a bit smelly)

Hope your Golden recovers as well as Vanessa did (she had the op twice - both legs).
Make sure you keep to absolute minimal movement - we had to crate Vanessa to keep her quiet after about the first 3 days as she thought she was mended.
