Hi Bek,
If you talk to the breeder of your own bitch then she/he should be able to give a great deal of info on past and present dogs in the pedigree.I found a couple of genealogy websites that i could trace most of the dogs on my bitches pedigree, this told me what colours were in her background and what the hip scores were, you would also need to research the pedigree of the sire you intend on using.
I have a friend who is on her second white GSD but both have not been without their longterm health problems, the first one had to PTS last May but in MHO should have been done at least 6 months before, he was aged 10.The new one aged 8 months has a serious heart murmur and may need expensive surgery if he makes it to 2 years of age :(
I know that you can get problems with all breeds and not just WGSD's, so you have to be as thorough as you can.
Bek, I replied on the other thread. Do you have a 5 generation pedigree of your bitch? If not, you can buy one from the Kennel Club. Just call them up and give them her KC name, then ask for a 5 generation pedigree. I think it costs about £20.
When you have that, then you could try Googleing some of the dogs on it.
But I think a better thing to do is to try to find someone within the world of GSDs who would be prepared to listen to you and look at the pedigree for you. The pedigree is like doing palm-reading (assuming you believe in palm reading!) - by that I mean that if you don't know what to look for, then you won't see anything apart from a load of names. But if you know what to look for, you can read a lot in it.
Why don't you try emailing the GSD clubs and explain that you would like someone knowledgeable within the breed to cast their eye over the pedigree and say what it says to them? They can only say no and tell you to go away, but so what? If they don't agree, perhaps the White GSD club might be able to help? Or your own breeder? You could even go to a Champ show as a spectator and take the 5 generation pedigree and show it to some GSD breeders by the GSD ring. There is a show on in Stafford soon (Manchester Champ show). Or there might be people on here who would know about GSD genealogy and could look at it for you.
I feel very sorry for you because I can see that you are trying to do everything the right way (health testing, right stud, research and so on), but I still maintain that it would be inadvisable to breed her. Why not start again with the best bitch pup you can get? What's so bad about getting a pup from another breeder anyway? You still get the lovely puppy smell, you know. You just don't get the stress and strain of breeding a litter. Why do you so much want to breed THIS bitch?
