Indicates poor immune system. I've seen a number of nasty cases directly after vaccination.
Thanks,
I can't believe it, but Gracie has been diagnosed with it and we are in the middle of treating her now. She has to have another wash on friday and then skin scrape to see if we have caught it. i can't believe how quickly it came on. On evening at ringcraft i noticed a whitish dusty mark on her that on closer inspection proved to be a small hairless patch, no bigger than a fingernail. I didn't think it was anything as she had been playing with the others and i asumed it was a battle scar. I took her to the vets the next day to be on the safe side and there she was diagnosed with demedectic (sp) mange. I didn't know what to think as i was only familiar with fox mange. I was worried my other dogs would get it but it's not contagious (thank god) and i was desperate to get on champdogs to ask you all your advice but i was on holiday from work with no internet access. However that very week in Dog World there was an article on it! How lucky! :-) It was very informative but it did spell the end for any breeding carrer that Gracie may have had. :-( Once she is over this i will have her spayed as i am not going to risk her passing it on to another generation.
I hope we have caught it but i won't know until next week. A the moment she has patches all over and looks like a reverse dalmation in ginger!! It also means i won't be able to take her to the open show this weekend that i have been looking forward to for about 2 months.
Again i just cross my fingers that she will recover, the vet said she knows of cases that 18mths later are still no better and that we may not cure it :-( However it doesn't cause her any discomfort or itching like sarcoptic.
Sorry to go on but i can't stop thinking about her
Hi Helen,
my lab/collie x had this condition as a pup- can't remember her exact age, but I think she was probabably about 6 months old. She had the skin scrapes and then the baths. The good news is she's now 5 1/2 and it's never come back.
