First of all, happy New Year.
I have a question that I need some guidance on!
Last night we noticed spots ofblood coming from Breeze, its as though she may be coming into season again (9 months old now). This happened 3 months ago but the blood drops only lasted 2 days, so I am not sure if she could have another season so soon, or if the first one wasn't a season, I am confused! I thought they had them approx every 6 months. There is no blood now and she doesn't seem swollen (not that she did last time either).
Her character is the same as normal.
As I have only had dogs before, this seems a bit of a mystery to me and afriend mentioned that she could be 'showing', but don't have a clue what that means.
Any hints would be great. Thanks
Bitches are all individual, and come into season when they feel like it! I've had them come into season every 10 months to the day, or a minimum of 17 weeks between seasons

If she is fine in herself just keep an eye on her for the next few days. She may be coming in, or it could be the start of something else, which could mean a quick trip to the vet for a check-up. If she goes off colour (herself, not any discharge ;) ) get in touch with the vet. I've never had one of my bitches with a pyometra, but it is always in the back of my mind. One of the main reason I have my bitches speyed if they are not going to be bred from.

Could also be that she didn't come into season properly last time and ovulate last time as the hormone levels were insufficient, and now she is trying again. A split season.
I had this happen with my oldest bitch. Soem of the others also came in season more frequently at first until they settled into the more normal 6 - 7 monthly inervals.
Thanks for your replies. I spoke with her breeder today and she said to get her spayed as soon as we can after this as its not good for her to have 2 seasons so quickly. I know that its normally half way between seasons but seeing that we don't know when the next one will come, I will speak to the vet on tuesday. By the time I finish my job I will be able to spend more time with her during her recovery
There does seem to be more blood this time, so I am going to take the precaution of not taking her to public places again and walking her in the garden or just round the block.
She really wanted me today which is unusual as she normally prefers to go to OH.
I wanted to wait until she was a little older to have her spayed, but her health must come first
Hi Sarah
Sounds to me like she's just about to come into season properly after a bit of a false start a couple of months ago. She sounds like she's behaving in a bit or a hormonal way! She will probably get swollen in the next day or so. If this happens and she has a proper season now, I wouldn't have her spayed until about 3 months after finishing her season. This gives her hormones time to settle down again. Don't worry, just keep an eye on her and you are quite right, keep her away from the boys.
We now think her first season was a hoax as her body wasn't developed enough, she wasn't even 6 months old then and the blood only lasted a couple of days. Although our Staffie took an interested in her last time round, he hasn't yet, but there is a lot more blood this time round and it seems to be dripping every day.
I don't want to get her spayed until after the next season as my vet prefers to do Rotties after this as they need longer to develop (her words).

This is exactly what I have had with two of my bitches. Expect thsi will now be a full blow season, adn for safety sake keep her away from males for a full 28 days from the first spoting. On average seasons last 21 days but bitches have been mated and had litters at up to a wekk after this.
I wouldn't worry about the frequent seasons as long as they eventualy get longer gaps. My oldest didn't go a full 6 months between seasons until she was 2 1/2 (and my youngest when she was two), and she lived a healthy 13 1/2 years.
I too would wait until the season after she is about 18 months old, to spay her, giving her a chance to mature physically and mantally a bit.
She has a big garden to run around in when supervised and when we are not around, then she has a large cornered area. our male has been 'done' so no chance of foul play in doors plus most of the time, sam runs away from her for a quiet life. I am going to go round all the fences at the weekend to make sure that no dog can get in.
I am not even going to risk taking her for a walk in the park for the next 28 days, which means I can have a lie in for the next couple of weeks and then my job finishes anyway.
Drops of blood can also be indicative of a UTI - keep an eye out for blood in her urine or drinking more than usual
If she's dripping as you've said though it does sound like she's having her proper season now, i'm in the same postision myself at the moment with blood dripping constantly and Nina's not a clean girl at all:rolleyes: She will be okay, good luck
Warm regards Susan
