Hi

Can anyone gove some advice.  I think I have a case of Kennel Cough.  Showing all the symptons.  Know that this is doing the rounds at the moment.  Have kept contact with other dogs to the minimum but have attended a big champ show recently.

My worry is that I have a bitch in welph about 7 weeks at moment just wondered if it will effect the puppies.

All other dogs on Benylin for mo, as it is Christmas and vets only on emergency cover.

Would appreciate to advice.  Thanks

Carry on with the benilyn. Thats all my vet advises if one of my dogs has got it. If you feel its geting worse in the dog who has is take it to the vets. they will also be able to give you the best advice on how to protect your pregnanat girl from getting it.
When we had it last year only one of mine had to see the vet. 3 of them had it altogether and they all attended the same show the 3 that stayed at home never got it.

My dogs have just got over it. Apparently there are two types bacterial and Viral.  My vet gave me antis for mine and they cleared up within 3 to 4 days without another cough even though one dog was coughing very badly for 2 days, so they obviously had the bacterial type as antis would not have touched the viral.
Benylin is the only other thing I know might help a little but unless treatable with antis it just needs to run its course.
I have had antis for dogs in the past with KC and they never helped at all.
May be worth trying some antis for your pregnant bitch as a precaution.

my bitch had her litter on day 56 but the granma of the litter went down with kc two days before the litter were born, but the mum of the litter had the pup earley beacuse 5 days after she to went down with kc,the puppies were very small, mum was very ill with ucler in her mouth coughing the lot but she still looked after the pups with my a round the clock for 24 hour, all the adult were put on antibiotics for two but 2 of the adults didnt go down with it which were the two males dog,

but bye 2 1/2 weeks each pup went down with kc with infections so out of 9 liver fcr bye week 4 we had to put sleep 5,then another one at 8 weeks old.

if the big show was lka where was a lot of dogs there with kc  coughing about,
i would go to vet a put all on antibiotcs plus the bitch the in whelp but put her on them for a long course,

hope this has not scare the wirts out of you,
but this happen to me 3 years ago and it heart breaking to see the puppies go down hill plus for the mum scann the whelping box every time to count how more pup she got left

Hi,

Thanks, Yes the show was the LKA.  Only pup attended and he was couging for 1 1/2 days so I thought he had got something stuck in his throat but yesterday 2 others who didn't attend the show started coughing.  At the moment bitch is clear so have seperated her from the others.  Thank you for you advice I will definately take them to the vet tomorrow if they are open.  Will phone the emergency vet for my bitch just incase.  Decided that I can't take the risk.

It is a shame that people still thought to take infected dogs to the show.  Recently, before the LKA in Labrador breed notes, Dog World warned that you have to stay clear of other dogs for up to 3 weeks to be safe.  I just hope that her and her puppies don't suffer because of it.
