I know this has nothing to do with dogs so I appologise in advance. I just had to ask this question.
My boss has to be the worst boss ever! Not only is he making us work til 5pm tomorrow night (night of the xmas due) but is also opening the factory at midnight as bank holiday Tuesday ends

. He says as it is midnight it is Wednesday and so no longer a bank holiday!
Luckily I do 9-5 but for my mates who do shifts this is a nightmare!
Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Michael
:rolleyes:Yes. i have also worked for a factory that done this. If you worked the night shift which started at 10 p.m. Then you were expected to be on shift at 12 Monday night!
Also like you, i didn't do the night shift so was ok.
As for xmas do. Lucky you!! We were not allowed one, the machines had to keep rolling till end of shift!!
Do you work at printers too?
I could go on all day about some of the things our bosses have done to us!
try this!
They used to give us a fresh turkey every year at christmas. Nice of them? Yes!
Then when they wanted to save money this was the first thing they stopped! But what was their excuse for stopping it?
The gulf war has made things hard so the turkey's have had to stop! We told them they could get stuffed!
The whole truth!
And may i add, i noticed you are a printer. My company was the huge paper mill, John Dickinson. Ever heard of it?
My husband is a print finisher. He works for a great little firm that are trying to rush all jobs out so they can work just Friday morn and have a little party all afternoon!
Sorry never heard of it! I don't deal with that side of things!
Another thing I forgot to mention! The company has just paid off 9 workers today! Some have worked there over 10 years!
I'll not sat the name incase you have heard of Norscreen - Ooops
No, have never heard of NORSCREEN.
All print firms are having it really tough now, clients are not paying the money, and have a "thats the price, take it or leave it" attitude.
On top of that, paper suppliers are about to increase their costs by a massive 8%. Firms now have got to be unbelievably competitive to survive. The print firms in the south east where i live are going under like fly's!!

Worked in a call centre for 10 years which was 24/7 365 days a year. Bank holidays were supposed to be a given but in reality we had to "negotiate" to get them off as they obviously had to have people there. If your contracted day fell on Christmas day it would, of course, also fall on New Years day and no one had both off, it was one or other. You also worked your contracted hours on your contracted days regardless of time of day or book holiday to take them off. Unfortunately not everyone was allowed to.

Like you Cheryl, my partner works for what you might call a 'call centre' - he works for the Foreign Office in the comms. dept, so he's working Christmas eve AND Christmas day on 'nights' - 10 - 8, and then, because of shift patterns, he's also working New Years day on 'days' - 8-3, so he won't be able to have a drink New Years eve because of the early start....... There's only 3 of them on shift at night, so there's no way he'd be able to take it as holiday and ask somebody on 'shift relief' to work it instead. AND we have two young children who like to see their Daddy at Christmas :(

oh just spotted- digger your in same boat- but with kiddies added- im sure you can make it fun for them anyway ;) just make trhe time he is there extra special! xx
>All print firms are having it really tough now, clients are not paying the money,
Tell me about it! :(
I have heard of Norscreen, thought that they were a good company, I have used them a couple of times.
I have been in the print industry for the past 15 years and most of the suppliers I use close between Christmas and New year but some have a skeleton staff on in the 3 days between xmas and new year.
It is a very competitive market and clients want to pay less for the same job they were paying for a year ago.. About 15 printers are going out of business every week. I am not sure why he couldn't start at a normal time instead of 12am, it does seem unfair.

At least none of you are unemployed over xmas eh :D

He's still employed - just not paid for it!

Stick a kipper under his mat in his office. The smell will last for ages :) And yes thats what we did to a grumpy boss hehehehe

Well, if we're moaning about bosses, last Friday I asked my boss why he wanted me to write out another cheque for a supplier when we had 30 cheques floating around unsigned already, and he started shouting at the top of his voice at me and flinging the cheques down on my desk!!

I really hate him - can't wait until I'm qualified as a dog groomer and can get out of that place!
Today we were finishing at 12, and when I left he was arguing with security who wanted to lock up, because he wanted to go on working - ha ha!
Wow your boss sure wants to make you all work !!
