Gr!  my boss is really getting up my nose at the moment - well, mine and just about everyone's noses I think!

We had the crimbo dinner on Saturday, and afterwards me and a couple other staff ppl were sorting out the rota up to New Year's.  I said over dinner that I couldn't do Boxing Day, but then went on to say I could do the 26th - someone say, "doi!" thick moment :D anyhoo, I realised the next morning and rang my boss straightaway and explained the mistake I'd made.  ALl fine, she said it was okay, that they'd sort it out and someone else should be able to do it.  Well, yesterday *she* rang *me* up to say they were in a spot of trouble, because I'd put myself down for the 26th on the rota but in the notebook I'd said I couldn't do it - ARG! Was I talking to myself the day before?!?

Honestly, she's like this all the time and she always gets annoyed with us about it.  Also after the dinner she was complaining about the rota, that there was no-one down for evening shifts - 3 of us were stood there saying that we were going to arrange it so that there was always someone in, evenings as well.  But when she rang me yesterday, she was complaining again that no-one was down for evening shifts! Deja-vu, anyone?

My sister has a boss like that male though, she has now found a new job and is starting after xmas. He would forget things they had told him needed doing and then blame them when they weren't done! Bosses hey big sigh.

I work for an IT consultancy and we get this all the time with clients (usually trying to shift the blame onto us for things they have / haven't done).  To get round it you just have to document everything - we always minute stuff and send it out via e-mail to everyone involved including management.  When someone starts to complain you just refer them to the e-mail.

It's a real pain in the backside but unfortunately in a lot of workplaces where people just want to shift the blame it's the only way to make sure you're not the one in trouble.

I used to do the same, Steve. Even though we had minute takers in meetings I used to prepare my own notes and I also used to put copies of all emails on the files too.  With notorious buck passers I'd also ensure that I sent the emails with "send receipt" tag on them. It all sounded a bit "anal" but it could - and regularly did - save hours and hours of feeble excuses and blame being shifted onto the innocent!
