My dog is coughing and a bit sneezy and a bit not himself, do dogs get colds?

sure its not kennel cough??

How do they get kennel cough? Just from other dogs on walks.  He isnt constantly coughing he just does the odd cough, seems more sneezing and now he looks a bit down and wants to be carried everywhere.  I swear they do it just to get me stressed.  :rolleyes:

KC is air born but normally gained when close to dogs or dog places ie shows, parks, kennels, you going to a friends house who has dogs.

The "germs" spread before the coughing starts.  It can take up2 something like 7 days for the coughing to start from when it was caught.

I think we need another trip to the vets.  Id rather be safe than sorry.  My younger pup aint got any symptoms of anything and you would think they would both get it as they go everywhere together.  The only place he could have caught it was on his walks.  Poor little man.  Hes all grumpy and I think his ear is sore too. 

Kennel Cough is the canine equivalent to a cold and basically picked up the smae way from other dog sthat have it spread by droplets.

Silly question but would he be coughing constantly with KC?  or just be down like a human with a cold?

And how does the vet treat it as you cant treat a human cold can you?

No they don't cough constanatly, it is mainly whe they DO something. (Get excited, run, eat, drink, play etc.) You don't for instance find they cough when they are resting. Antibiotics does help, as does Benylin.

Cheers guys.  Im not going to take him to the vet im going to get some echinacea and other stuff I have seen on a website.  Also get him some honey im sure he will love it. 

Sounds like it is Kennel Cough, mine have all had same symptoms. Antibiotics didnt help but used a cough bottle which seemed to ease some of the coughing, just need to let it run its course and watch out for oldies and pups. It seems to be doing the rounds at the moment. A good trick is to put your finger on the dogs throat and that usually triggers the cough.
