my 9 pups who are 4 weeks old have been drinking and eating for about two weeks the stragne thing is they will only drink water out of the mums bowl i had to wean them early due to eclampsia and now the pups only want her bowl because i have to have them seperated form mum it means ive gotta put the bowl in and once they have had a drink take it back out and give it back to mum i tried just giving them mums bowl and giving mum a different water bowl but after the bowl had been refilled they didnt want it obviously i wash the bowl out after every use to stop water scum and this wasnt a problem when they first started drinking because mum would have a drink after it had been cleaned and then pups would drink i think it might be cause the bowl ends up smelling like mum do you think its because they cant suckle her or do you think they are just being picky its strange

Could it also be that the water directly from the tap is very cold at the moment and the pups prefer it to be more like room temperature, also water that ahs been drawn directly has a slightly different taste to water that has had the opportunity to 'settle' IMO.

Of course they could just be being fussy and as long as you are prepared to do what you do they will let you ;-)

well the water has time to settle in either case and the water tends to be pretty warm in the tap this time of year due to the tempreture outside i think it is puely mum drinking because when they were all togeath mum would drink out of there bowl as well and then they would drink out of it im thinking i might start letting mum have a small drink out of thier bowl first and then giving it to them i was just curious because it is a funny little quirk and didnt really understand the difference unless she adds some kinda mum flavour to it and thats why they like it

this litter seems to have alot of funny little quirks for instance there is one pup that just stares at me all the time it doesnt flinch it just stares at me and its not trying to spook me out or staring me down its just like it is fascinated with me then their is another pup that will follow me everywhere then will do this funny little flippy thing and always ends up flat on her butt i think this litter has become alot more attached to me because i started feeding them earlier than usual and they now know i am the one who brings the food there is another pup who gets so excited at the sight of either me or mum that it wags its tail so hard its whole body wags with it then there is the other pup that only wants to play with the sleeping pups (isnt there always one of them in a litter and no other pup can settle in for a sleep until that one goes to sleep) the other day they got there first bath and all the other pups hated it but one of the pups was imposible to bath because he kept trying to catch the water in his mouth everytime i would move the nozzle to wash some soap of he would spin around and start catching the water ive never had a puppy that loved playing in water the first time he was bathed most pups usually hate the first bath
these pups have some very strong personatilities

I have 2 bowls of water for my dogs and they both drink from the same bowl.  Could it be that they think cause somebody else has drank from that bowl it may be better than the other one?
