Can someone please tell me what the pause break key is for on a keyboard please?  I've even tried to make it do something but mine is either not working or I'm not using it in the right context!

We've got the other 20 but can't get this one!  Many thanks in advance

LJS is right it's a left over from when computers ran DOS, it let you pause the data on the screen so you could see what was there.  If you want to try it go a dos box type cd \windows then dir and press the pause button (quickly) :D

Blimey Steve thanks it is rare that I get something right about PC's :D

Talk to me about ERP systems and I can do the talk but PC's and operating systems stump me a bit sometimes  :D  Functional rather then technical :D

Wow that takes me back a bit too lol.... too far back... on the old dos system if you run the dir, it brought up the entire directory rotating at the speed of light lol... keep hitting the pause, and calling for dir until you got the right place.....yeh,  good old dos sytems....and I still have an old IBM 286 anyone remember those... black and white screens too :D :D :D and load any software took 25(ish) floppy disks....oooh the good old days.... not :D

Now you're talking kayc! I remember when floppy disks were actually floppy too. And that you had to get in and out of the blessed computer by inserting one in drive A and the other in drive B. And when you had to write batch programs in DOS to get a menu screen. Oh, and "syntax errors".

Oh help, am now feeling much too old. Again!
