Topic Dog Boards / General / Ferry Crossing - Liverpool to Ireland
- By Lynne [gb] Date 15.12.05 14:23 UTC
One of the ladies that I sold a puppy to has to move to Ireland due to her husbands change in job.  The puppies are now 4 months old but unfortuantely her puppy still cries when travelling in the car.  The puppy owner does not want to leave the puppy in the car when travelling across from the UK to Ireland due to this although I am aware that the car will not be moving.  Can anyone recommend a ferry company (if there is any) that would allow the puppy to be let out of the car or any other advice or help would be greatefully received.

</a>'>http://faqs.irishferries.com/faq/if/1222.asp</a> (Irish Ferries) have some Kennels on board that you can use for the trip, they have to be booked in advance but are free of charge.  I've never used the service so I've no idea what it's like.

P & O Irish Sea used to allow dogs on deck with their owners providing they do not enter the restaurant or food areas.  We travelled from Cairnryan to Larne in 2000 with the dogs and they were allowed up on the ship with us.

However, P & O have since changed their policy and dogs are now not allowed out of the car.

OTOH, Stena Line, Stranraer to Belfast still do allow dogs on deck on their conventional ferries but not on the HSF.

You could try Stranrear to Larne a friend of mine uses that route when she is going to friends and she takes her two dogs with her....

I know you can book the kennels on board and if you're really lucky they may let you stay with him. (its less than two hours a flask and a picnic sorted).

I know someone who refused point blank to get out her van and asked to be let off which was hard going as the ferry had already left port and to get her dog in the kennels she'd have had to cut off half his body :D :D

Stranraer to Larne you have to leave the dogs in the car during the crossing. I took it in June with my bitch and a pup.

I don't think anyones disputing that fact goldmail more the fact you have to leave the dog alone as the ferries don't allow people to stay in the vehicles.

I'd like to stay with mine wherever it maybe on deck or down below.

Don't quite know what you mean my girl -that's what I was saying, Stranraer to Larne you have to leave the dogs in the car and stay away form the car deck so it wouldn't really be any help to the person who didn't want to leave the dog in the car......
