Hi. Bought some puppy kong stuffing for my 15 week old Cav today and just popped a bit in his kong along with a treat.....he's been at it for about 30 mins and has licked most of the stuffing out but can't get the treat - it keeps going up to the top end with the tiny hole...........poor little thing, he's trembling with excitement at the thought of the treat, will he not get frustrated??

I've often wondered this about kongs.  Every time I go to buy one for Roxy I have second thoughts and don't bother.  I'm worried that it will frustrate her rather than give her enjoyment.  What does everyone else think?

My dogs have a lot of tenacity, especially where food is concerned, so I have never found that they have become frustrated and given up; on the contrary they find lots of ways to achieve their ends by bouncing them, dropping them, using their tongues and their paws etc.

I think it makes them use their little grey cells..........

My dog is the Kong master he loves them but is soooo food motivated he will do anything to get the food out. Typical Beagle!

He will spend forever and get every little bit of food out! It's great keeps him so busy and gets very excited when get one out to prepare.

Last night we came home to discover Bert had some fun after his Kong and got into my Partners trouser pocket ( that were folded on top of the chest ) and pulled everything out, poo bags, money, because he had had treats in them when he had him out on a walk earlier.

He never forgets! Well not when it comes to food!! :)

I only give her the kong if I know I am going to be out for a few hours.  I often wondered how long it took to get a really packed kong emptied and I found out a couple of weeks ago.  I stuffed the kong really tight with chicken and peanut butter toast.  I went out but had forgotten something and returned about 20 minutes later and it was completely empty

I'm going to freeze it next time like some on this forum have suggested.

I think it's a good lesson for dogs to learn to deal with frustration ;)

I'm going to try another later and leave him to it! I'll definately put something tasty in it on Saturday night when I want peace and quiet for the X Factor final!!! Will dig out the thread on kong recipes!

Eek! What am I doing wrong? It takes Jack (5 month old westie) all of five mins to completely clean out his small Kong no matter how frozen it is..
I've used kong filler, peanut butter and biscuits, soft chees...you name it, he licks it out pronto.
Is it that long westie tongue or I need a bigger Kong?
And I thought he'd happily lick away for ages while I had a much-needed rest:rolleyes:
Oh well, back to the drawing board..

I put 1 natures menu treat in today with a bit of kong stuffing and Harvey could not get it out - the more he licked, the further up the treat went!!
