What do you guys use ??

Do you just use the dry puppy food with water blended???

OR carnation milk with baby rice first - then dry food blended ??

I've got 16 day old pups whos mum is now very disinterested - only feeding when ness. so was wondering whether to start on milk & baby rice b4 dry food in blender, with the babies being that bit younger ??
[they are large breed pups]

I soak and mash the pupy food with 'puppy Milk formula'.  My personal choices are Nutrolac (made from Goats Milk) and Litterlac (the more usual altered cows milk).

I had a large litter so I had to wean earlier than normal (2 weeks old.) :)
I started mine on scraped beef (beef scraped with a sharp knife)and fed each one about a teaspoon at first and gradually increased as the days went by.
I bought a joint of topside which I cut into slices, this way I could freeze what I didn't need and get a couple of slices out each night to defrost for the next day. When they were about 3-4 weeks old I then used dry complete which I soaked in whelpi.
I know everyone has their own way of doing things, this was just mine.
Good luck and have fun :D

I start them on finely minced beef until they have the idea of taking food from a bowl. Then they go onto a porridge made by whizzing puppy food in the blender with Welpi. As they get bigger I whizz less until the puppy food is just soaked in the Welpi. Later the Welpi is reduced until they are taking the puppy food dry.

I wouldn't use carnation milk/baby rice as it probably isn't balanced for pups.

i started feeding my pups at the same time as you and my vet just said make the puppy food soggy and give it to them they had a little upset tummy the first day which is pretty usual no matter how old theyare and then they were fine they loved it and stuck right into it the are now approaching 4 weeks and they now exactly what time there food should be ready and if its not they let me know very loudly make sure they a drinking water which is very hard for pups to do but if you can coax mum into showing them they will pick it up in no time

oh p.s they tend to gain alot of weight and because they are still young and still have a little while before the weight gain slows down dont be suprised if they double in size in the next 2 weeks my pups each weigh over a kilo which by now they would usually only be around 800g and the largest one i have just hit the 2 kilo mark its not a big problem because once they start wrestling around and really getting into play and running it will slow down and they will grow into it but dont be suprised when you have some fat puppies on your hands and you cant withhold or limit food with them either you have to give them the exact amount because they need it
