My bitch is 55 days pregnant today.  She has been groaning and whining a bit for the last couple of weeks, which I put down to her feeling uncomfortable, but tonight she is whining much more, and is very unsettled and panting (she is not really a panting dog, so this is unusual in itself). 

Is it possible for her to have them so early?  Or maybe they are just moving around and making her uncomfortable or something?

Yes, I asked my vet about it, and she said it is normal with her feeling uncomfortable, and not being able to get into a comfy position.  She is a vocal dog anyway. 

It could be that the puppies are getting lined up into position & you could see them in the next day or two.  Have you started recording her temperature at least the last few days?  I find this to be a positive indicator of them starting in the next 24 hours.

Hi,  Thanks for your reply.  No, I haven't been recording her temperature.  She settled down last night, and seems a bit more normal today.  I am certainly on high alert now!!
