Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / New Food

I have read ths forums topics on food a few times, and I am a member of a few other gundog forums where food has recently been dicussed, making me re-think my options and seek advice, I have read about BHA and BHT and also grain content etc, having a few house dogs (still active gundogs) , but mainly a few kennels of working dogs/trial dogs I am interested in other people's opinions on the best "working" dog food out there at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Personally I see no reason for a special diet for "working dogs"; the same principles apply to dogs as do humans, they only thing you need to consider is the calorific density of the food; the more work you expect from the dog, the more calories they will need in order keep up the stamina required during their activity.

Therefore I would be looking at a commercial food which provided enough calories to ensure that my dog did not have a drop in blood sugar levels if it was expected to work for a full day's shooting etc.

Most commercial diets emphasise the protein content rather than the calorie content; the two are not necessariy synonymous.
