Topic Dog Boards / General / Coat for large GSD
- By Lara Date 06.05.02 16:23 UTC
Can anyone recommend the best place to buy a large dog coat for an elderly GSD. I want it to be warm and waterproof. The ones in the pet shops all seem to be too small!
Thanks

Hi Lara,
I've noticed that coat selection tends to be seasonal. You might just be having troubles finding one because Spring has supposedly sprung :D Don't mean to be negative.... You might try some online sites. All I have is American businesses. I don't think that's what you have in mind. If you do, let me know.
good luck,

Maybe you're right about the wrong time of year - I was planning ahead! Thanks - but I think I'll look a bit closer to home first (save a bit on the postage and packing!). There's bound to be something somewhere over here that will suit him.

Lara,
You know if you really get into a bind.... go to an Army Surplus store & pick up a couple of the green wool blankets. Then experiment. Lining with flannel would keep him warm & wool keeps warm even when wet. It's even naturally water repellent. Being a GSD, it shouldn't be too difficult to try out various shapes :D It's the smaller ones that frustrate me :)
Anyway, just a thought :)

Hi there, having worked in a few pet shops, if you go in and ask for what you want, a pet shop owner can order a coat just for you, whatever the season from their wholesaler, takes about a week.
