I' m thinking about changing to Nutro Lamb and Rice for my
Westie puppy. How good is NUTRO
- By supervizsla Date 11.12.05 19:59 UTC
i think that it is a really good food.
i work at a vets once weekly and we advise all our new puppies to be fed on it .i have seen some westies do really well.
another food which my dogs are on is burns. by dog has had really bad food allergies for her whole life and for the first time she
has stopped itching dramatically.
have a look at both and then decide but out of all the foods i have tried (hills, proplan, beta, james wellbeloved, eukanuba, iams, nutro, burns)
i have found burns to be the only food to stop her itch. i know westies can get dry skin so as nutro is slightly more fatty that might be best.
good luck with your pup. hope this helped

I wouldnt feed nutro, especially not to a westie,it is far too grain heavy,if your dog is prone to food allergies then a food like nutro is a prime candidate to set it off :(

However if you dont have many other options other than nutro and you dont mind paying top of the line price for a mid range food, try going for the one with the highest fat levels and the least grains/most meat. Usually the puppy or performance formula's.

I cannot praise Nutro enough, I reared my 2nd litter on it from conception to leaving home at 8 weeks old and continued with the bitch I kept.  The litter was born with the shiniest coats I have ever seen, they were well boned, good chunky pups even my 'little guy' who soon caught up with his siblings.

I'm another Nutro fan.  My RR had skin problems and when I switched to Nutro they all disappeared.  Its a fabulous food :D

I feed mine Nutro natural choice lamb and rice and they are doing great on it... In all you just have to find what works best for your dog :)

I wouldn't feed anything else, especially for a dog with skin problems. My hubby used to have a Westie, which he literally spent thousands on for dermatological problems...within 2 weeks on Nutro it had cleared up completely! My Storms Dad...Multi Int Ch And I'm Great To Be Back, was fed on Nutro...I think his owner works for them? Well, Bruce(his pet name) won the Working Group at Crufts in 2003...we were lucky enough to get Storm, one of his pups. You can see pics of Bruce on the web, Storm you can see on the Our Dogs site under Newfie breeders, her photo is there. Look at Dawn Jenkins, Yamchamol affix. The pictures speak for them selves! I also feed it to my 8 year old Newfie..her coat and general condition improved so much on Nutro it was unbelievable! One Judge said 'Goes round the ring like a 2 year old'! Recently I was thinking of feeding Autarky...again I THINK the chap that makes Autarky used to work for Nutro and set up his own business! All the best, Dawn X

It's great that Nutro works for some people, but i often wonder if the type dogs you are talking about newfiedreams are fed exclusively on dry food?? Do they get supplements for skin and coat, fresh food additions on a regular basis etc. etc :)

Dollface your in the US right? May i ask why you feed Nutro when you have such a massive selection of super premium foods at your disposal? Such as Timberwolf, innova,EVO,natural balance etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. What about Nutro Ultra? Even that is a step up from Natural choice ;) I would give my right arm to have but a quarter of the foods you have at your disposal over there.

Hailey, the Westie was exclusively Nutro fed...my girls get Vit C, Star Flower Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Zinc and a little Garlic paste to deter fleas and ticks.
