Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Overfeeding pups?
- By sarahl [gb] Date 09.12.05 15:26 UTC
We started weaning our pups last sunday (they will be 4 weeks old tomorrow) with soaked AG and welpi which they seem to love.   They are fed 4 times a day and each day we are increasing their food as you would expect.  Question is, will the pups will stop eating when they've had enough or is there a limit as to how much we should feed them?

At that age (though it doesn't last long!) I find they'll stop when they've had enough, and you still want them to have some milk from mum as well. They'll also need access to water now they're on solid food.

Hi Sarah

My 7 eventually stop eating - then they collapse on mum but don't attempt to feed off her :-)

they will stop as soon as they are ful because pups like to sleep on a full belly i have had to feed my pups for the last week they are only 3 weeks old now because they wanted mums food and no matter where it was even if it was a tiny bit on her face they would find it and get it finally after a few days of waging war with puppies over food the vet just said give it to em it wont hurt so i did and i have never had happier pups before dogs arnt like cats they rarely over eat until they vomit they will eat until they are full and then will go back to it later when there is room for more
