very disturbing :-( How cruel can some people be :-( :-(
- By bowers Date 07.12.05 01:36 UTC
Horrible isnt it.   :(
- By waffy [gb] Date 07.12.05 07:26 UTC
I couldn't even watch it.
I only have to see a poor dog or cats eyes and I'm in tears. :(
I cannot stand cruelty to animals and I cannot stand the fact that countries like China find the cruel treatment of cats and dogs so normal.:(
I wont be able to stop thinking about that all day now. :(
- By briedog [gb] Date 07.12.05 08:08 UTC
it was looking in their eyes that just said it all,

there got to be some thing done about this.
- By rach1 Date 07.12.05 08:48 UTC
I watched a bit and had to stop it. It is unbelievable that things like this go on in the world, makes me so angry. Those poor animals looked so frightened.
- By Ory [si] Date 07.12.05 08:54 UTC
It happens, not only in China but in other what you might call civilized western countries as well..... nufortunately humans are the most disgusting of all the animals. In fact, we don't deserve to be associated with animals at all.
- By sharonb [gb] Date 07.12.05 09:23 UTC
I have seen a video like this before might be the same 1. I chose not to watch it. Its the worst thing I ever seen in my life. It was about a year ago now and it still haunts me. Not sure if its the same 1 but I cant bare to look at my dogs /cats paws again it always makes me want to cry.
- By jessie12 Date 07.12.05 10:08 UTC
I am also disgusted by this cruelty. I knew what I would see when Igot the video to play as I saw it on the tv a couple of days ago, but I made myself watch it again, knowing it would break my heart all over again because I feel if no-one watches these things, they will never be stopped because no one really will ever know what happens otherwise.
Don't get me wrong, I don't blame anybody for feeling unable to watch these things, I was the same until about 3 years ago when I found myself watching a news item about bear-baiting "sport".  After hearing how their claws and teeth are ripped out so they can't defend themselves from the dogs that were sent in to attack them, I was physically sick and walked away from the tv.  Then I  felt so guilty, like I was abandoning the poor animals. I know there is little I can do really, but felt that burying my head in the sand was the wrong thing to do.

I have since joined various animals rights campaignes, and hope that in some very small way I might be able to help put a stop to even one piece of cruelty.  There are so many ways of being cruel to an animals and humans seem to be able to find all those ways and worst of all, some of them even seem to enjoy it.

I hope I have not offended or upset anyone with the content of my post, I feel very strongly about how we humans abuse our positions of "power" over almost every living thing.

I have seen this video, or parts of it, before and it is very sickening.  Most of this fur goes to Europe where they are either unaware or not bothered about where and how it gets there so I believe the answer to helping this trade stop is for politicians to press for the receiving countries to make their citizens more aware, no market - no trade.
Personally, joining an animal rights group would be bottom of my list of things to do.  I don't have any problems with the idea of fur in itself and I have often wondered if the animal rights extremists distruction of a properly regulated fur industry in the UK and elsewhere has, infact, contributed to this problem.
- By shelwil [gb] Date 07.12.05 10:22 UTC
You certainly have not offended me, I can totally understand were you are coming from.  I came across this video a few months ago, I watched it then, and I was in tears. it is horrific, it amazes me that is this day and age this still goes on.   It haunted me for weeks,  Humans are disgusting, we think we are higher than any other animal on this planet, We think we have the right to kill and make them suffer for our own satisfaction.  We need to stop and look around us and see how lucky we are this planet is full and amazing creatures, they way we are going there will be nothing left for our children and our childrens children.

I am a supporter of WWF,  but I wish there was more I could do.  All cruelty to animals shold be STOPPED.

Sheli

Not all humans are bad. There are millions of good people out there. Lets not tar the whole human race with the same brush!

Yes, this is a disgusting practice - carried out by people who have no regard for animals suffering or feelings. I wrote to MP regarding this previously and was advised that whilst he couldn't do anything about it, he was a member of the Cats Protection League

The sad fact is that there is cruelty everywhere - and whilst folk are cruel to their own children, what hope do the animals have :(
- By Teri Date 07.12.05 11:42 UTC
Like you I think we all need to do our bit to prevent these practices world wide.  The WWF and WSPA both make huge inroads in lobbying governments in countries where some of the most cruel practices go on - much of it requires educating more modern societies in the Far East and third world countries and I'm sure if/when Yvonne (Trevor) sees this thread she will be able to advise much better than I on their methods and successes :)

IMO greater public awareness is needed in the UK so that, for example, those who innocently buy cute fur trimmed fashion accessories, ornaments and toys - particularly from small shops and market stalls - realise that often these products are made from domestic pets which have been stolen and butchered.  Sadly it's big business and only by ensuring the general public is aware of the possibility that such goods are readily available and making known how and where the fur is sourced can we really make any impact on ensuring trade has no place here.

regards, Teri

In case anyone has misunderstood my post, I do agree with Teri that is well worthwhile supporting animal welfare groups, such as those she mentions, who lobby political opinion regarding acts of cruelty.  It is the animal rights groups that I, personally, do not share opinions with :)
- By Teri Date 07.12.05 12:35 UTC
I understood what you meant Isabel :)

I think some folks (not on this thread BTW) don't differentiate between the two - or at least not the wording used.  Sadly animal rights to many of us now have connotations of extremists who use and carry out threats of violence "for the cause" :(   I'm sure we're all agreed that a group which lobbies for protection of animals and helps rescue those endangered whether by man or environment (oft same thing  ) is deserving of support providing no endorsement of measures against people which prejudice their health, welfare and right to live free of terror are part of their methods.
- By jessie12 Date 07.12.05 12:49 UTC
**Sadly animal rights to many of us now have connotations of extremists who use and carry out threats of violence "for the cause"**

would just like to agree with Teri about the need to differentiate between the two.  I used the expression animal rights in my previous post, but would like to make it clear I don't make threats or agree with those people who go about things in that way.

Jess.xxx

P.S. how do you put those little faces into your posts-I think they are great! So comical and they can also take the "sting" out of a comment that wasn't intended to sound harsh!
- By Isabel Date 07.12.05 12:59 UTC
I'm afraid its a bit more than that with me :)   I don't believe animals have "rights"  they have no responsibilty or morals so they are different to us where these things go hand in hand.
I have no plans to become a vegetarian, although I avoid factory farmed meats, and I have no plans to stop wearing leather or even fur if it does not involve cruel practices.  This is what the animal rights people would want to happen (leaving their methods entirely aside ;)) so I could never support them.
: ) together = :)
; ) together = ;)

Just seen the post come up, and no it didn't work!!  HELP!!!!
- By Teri Date 07.12.05 13:14 UTC
Don't leave a space between the : and the letter or symbol of choice!  If you run your mouse over them most show you how to do them.

Teri :)

I have to say I'm not into the fur trade but I'm not keen on PETA as some of the stuff they have have done in the past is a little OTT.
I can remember several Mink farms that were raided by the anti fur lot and they decided to let the lot go. Now most rivers have Mink and the devastation they have caused is terrible. I've seen my local river go down hill both in fish stocks and bird stocks and have seen several times ducks dragged under by mink. Now there are no more ducks as the mink population has grown as there are no natural predators apart from otters who will move them out.
Its all very well these people believing they are doing good but I wonder if they think what affect their actions have when they do this.

Regards
Stu

And then there's the stunt of the 30 or so dogs PETA released from a pound, only to PTS them selves, PETA are not an animal welfare cause, they believe no animal, with out exception should be in capitivity of any kind, they would rather the animals wrre dead then a pet for example.

Not an nice organisation by any stretch of the imagination.
- By Minipeace [gb] Date 07.12.05 15:23 UTC
Totally agree Robert.
They hit a dog show in the USA earlier this year where they tried to release all the dogs from their crates for the reasons you stated. I can't find the web link at the moment that shows them for what they are :(
- By Isabel Date 07.12.05 15:27 UTC
This is the sort of thing I was thinking of.  I have to say I think if you join one of these groups you are always going to be condoning their activities even if you don't so much as pull a balaclava on yourself.
- By Minipeace [gb] Date 07.12.05 15:45 UTC
Take a peep at these links.

http://www.askcarla.com/answers.asp?QuestionandanswerID=378

This they claim they did not release any dogs from a show but they sure would not like us if you read through it.

http://norfolkdogs.firmnorfolk.com

This is the first story down where members of Peta where dumping dead dogs but were caught :(
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 07.12.05 15:51 UTC
That first link is yet more evidence that they don't want anyone to breed animals - and if none are bred, none can be pets.
- By Isabel Date 07.12.05 15:58 UTC
This has reminded me of another aspect about them I am uncomfortable with.  Is it just me or does anyone else find the single personality aspect of their leadership a little odd?  A little dictatorial for instance?
- By Minipeace [gb] Date 07.12.05 16:02 UTC
I just wanted to post this link as the last one

http://www.consumerfreedom.com/pressRelease_detail.cfm/release/109

To say it makes me angry and upset just does not explain my true thoughts. How can they do this :(
- By CherylS Date 07.12.05 16:19 UTC
I can't help thinking that instead of these websites showing activists snuggling up to cute doggies and kitties they should show the activists with their hands around the animals throats or perhaps ushering them into the type of small rooms used about 60 years ago?

I thought it was a terrible shame that the animals farms for research were forced to close in this country.  I am thinking specifically of the guinea pigs.  This country has a good record for animal husbandry on the whole and now we don't know how the research animals will be kept in other countries, perhaps those like China.  I know that it's not nice to think of animals being used for research but how many people question whether their medication has been tested on animals before accepting it from the doctors or before emergency hospitalisation?

I suffer from migraines regularly which are bad enough with medication let alone without which would be 3 days completely deblilitated plus more days to recover properly.
