Just wondering what everyone's healthcare routines are for your dogs?  Reading the post about bad teeth just now reminded me that I must get into a routine with cleaning my dogs' teeth - I used to give them raw bones for it, but Tia has a real resource guarding issue, and it's the worts with bones - she's put a hole in Remy's face before because of it, and bitten Dad (or tried to!) because he sat too close when she had one, so I don't give them bones anymore.

So now I find myself working out a proper routine once and for all - teeth cleaning every evening, brushing and the like.  I'm good with training, but lazy with those sort of things :) time for a swift self-kick up the behind I think!

I'm a dental nurse so I do brush my dogs teeth ,but not everyday, I use a childs toothbrush as they are much smaller and childrens toothpaste as the fluoride content is usually much lower and the taste isn't nearly as strong,I can't prevent the build up of hard calculus as for that I would have to floss!! and brushing is always a struggle,so I do it when there sleepy.

Ashlee, I'd have thought you would be better off using specially formulated doggy toothpaste rather than one for children.

My first dog never had her teeth brushed in her life and when she passed away at 13, her teeth were as clean and pearly white as when she was a youngster. She got lots of chews and raw bones, so I put it down to that.

Ears, paws and general body checked over daily.
Nails clipped once a week.
Ears cleaned once a week.
Teeth - self cleaning as on raw diet.
Brushed every day
Bathed about once a year, whether they need it or not. :D
Pay serious attention to diet.
