I know staffies are susceptible to heat and it's advisable to make sure they don't get too hot, but do they also feel the cold to a great degree? I realise they only have thin coats, but hadn't thought of the cold too much.
My 7 month old staffie bitch has a warm padded cushion in the front room with us where she spends the evening (when she's not trying to get on the sofa!) and fleece padding in her crate for when we go out or over night. The thing, is as the weather has got colder, I more and more often find her sitting near the radiator in the kitchen. So this morning I moved her cage over to the radiator and instead of following me everywhere as she normally does, she stayed in there for most of the afternoon.
I am a little worried about her, but also wondered if it could be because she is half way through her first season and is feeling it more (as I do at that time) or just feeling sorry for herself or if she is always going to feel the cold. Or is she just pulling the wool and getting away with it!!!
Would appreciate any help.

hi there jess i to have a staffy who feels the cold alot so much so i have to take her out with her coat on otherwise she wont
go out side. it could that she is half way through her first season but most saffies suffer from the cold they love the warmth of
a nice warm fire or radiator and they like nothing more to snuggle up on the sofa.
in the summer months staffies suffer from the heat they dont like to be hot if a staffy is in the garden in the summer it will
sooner sit in the shade than in the sun.. you cant win they dont like to be to hot and they dont like to be to cold..
but staffies are lovely dogs and they are a very loving breed.
but staffies do seem to like the sofa even mine likes the sofa more than her own bed and she has a single mattress with
a duvet and pillow.so i would not worry to much about her feeling the cold it is a thing most staffies suffer from.
i hope this is of help to you...
all the best francesca..
A lot does depend on the dog and what they are like as an individual, but some medical problems can cause a dog to feel cold eg hypothyroid problems.

yes you are right in what you are saying have you mentioned her feeling the cold to your vet to see if he thinks it could be
a medical problem..
francesca...
we've got to go visit the vet next week anyway so I'll mention it and see if he thinks there is anything to be concerned with.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated!!

Hi Jess,
My Staff also feels the cold in the winter. He loves nothing better than lying in front of a roaring fire! He also has a cosy jacket on when out for a walk when it's really cold. If it's raining he'll run into the kennel to pee!! :D
Sarah.
my staffie wont even entertain the idea of going out the door if its raining, she'll time it very finely to go when the rain has just stopped or has a strong sense of when the rain is lightest if shes really busting to go!! She's such a character, I've never come across such cunning and slyness in finding ways around "banned manouvers" that just have me giggling at the sheer cheek of it and if I insist she does as she is told, she actually stamps her front paws at me!! Got to love them eh!!!

My bitches have often taken to their beds and been a bit quiet during seasons.
