Hiya, I took my bitch for a scan which confirmed she was pregnant. The vet said on a medical term there are definately 2 but he saw 4?? & that she was earlier than what we were saying? She was bang on and she is 64 days today and the labour has started although no puppies as of yet but could there of been any more or would they all of shown up.
At least this way I know roughly how many I am expecting, I know I will just have to wait & see but I just wondered if all pups too tend to show up on the scans? Many thanks

I don't normally take any notice of No's the vet quotes, sometimes they 'may' see 4 but they only have 2 other times they tell you 4 and they go on to have 8.
It won't be long now before you know, you can normally feel when she's finished. Good luck
Many thanks for your replies, I find this site a lot more helpful & reassuring than my vets, I know that sounds bad because I should trust my vet but I find everyone here to be so much more helpful.
I will soon find out!!!!

When I had my bitch scanned the vet could see two puppies but she had 4. Not sure if this helps. Good Luck :)

I was told 3 or 4 and we had 10, then was told 6 and we had 9. :)
It is just a case of wait & see!!! Thanks
I have been told 3 or 4, so time will tell. I can't wait to find out :-)
Me too, although very anxious for my dog I am also very excited!!
Make sure you let us know the outcome :-)
I had a lady come in and scan my bitch and she was dead
on the prediction of how many puppies. It was very helpful

I had the sheep scanner she predicted 7 and Phoebe had 7 - the scanner they use is a lot more accurate than the vets.
Good luck with the puppies
Thank you everyone, I will let you all know the outcome? I am so tired at the moment & have match sticks holding my eyes open!! Its just this part the waiting

hi there, my bitch was also scanned @ 4 wks & we were told 2 puppies, was scanned again yesterday during a visit to vets as she did not want to part with her unborn babies & vet wanted to check they were not in distress, i can report all went well & delivered a very healty 4 pups of which are already sold so scanning cannot be 100% & better for pregnancy detection rather than quoting numbers

Just watched the scan on my girl and saw very distinctly 8 puppies. Could even see the face clearly on one of them. Sheep scanner excellent lady no stress no rush.
We used a lady who scans sheep, she was recommended to us by the breeder of our bitch. She scanned my girl and said she had 6, and she had 6. Apparently she is always spot on, and has a very good reputation.

Yes I would say sheep scanners are usually spot on. Vets do not have the experience and their equipment does not seem to be so good Regards Meg
Yes i too had a sheep scanner in, she predicted 10!! possibly 11,and placed the whelping date at the 3rd of Jan!!!!!
so will follow all your posts then will be probably posting myself when the time comes!!
This will be our 1st litter so we will be quite anxious, and have fingers crossed that all goes well!!
We have wonderful support off our friends in the breed and our breeders who are great,so we should have enough of us at hand.
Hopefully we will have 1 or 2 possible show prospects to keep!!!
Look forward to hearing how you all get on,
Good luck,
sam
p.s Before anyone asks All relevent health checks have been done, hipscoring,DNA profiled, fit, healthy girl with great pedigree!!! :)

Beautiful dog shame about the owner ;)
She is going to be a nervous wreak :-)

When Thea had her puppies she was scanned twice the 1st one said definately 5, possibly more, a week later the same vet practice different vet maybe 3. when the puppy came it was a singleton.
We have not had Barbie scanned, but can feel at least 3 little bits and bob moving around, we should know early next week for definate when they pop out

Had my girl scanned and the vet said theres definately more than two!!! but wud NOT say anything more as he feels that these scans are not acurate enough on large breeds. But i knew that i saw at least 4 or five on the scan at one time.
My girl went on to have 15!!!!!! Not even the vet predicted any where near that!!

Abbie was scanned for 7 & that's how many we got :) I go to a lady who does lots of scans & she's been accurate each time now.

i never get xrays because my vet believes it stresses the bitch out to much before whelping but i do get scans and i have never had one that was accurate my last one said 2 and i ended up with 9 in larger dogs the pups tend to stay up near the rib area until a week before whelp and then start to slowely move down i only use the scan to definetly confirm pregnancy i never go of and my vet agrees on how many its showing because they arnt accurate even with the best trained hand doing them
