Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / adolescent irish staff bitch

my bitch has changed from a well behaved loving pup to a 10 month old adolescent who has become domineering of our other dogs(2 whippets) and sometimes possessive of myself, only with my youngest (9) of 4 sons. she has pulled him from behind to the floor.  this seems to coincide with her first experience of fireworks which terrified her , shes still worried about night walks and now men in the dark. any insight into this would be appreciated

I think you've hit the nail on the head - she's a teenager!  However, bearing in mind her breed and how the behaviour she has exhibitted, I think you need to get a referal to a trainer/behaviourist who can view her in action and give you advice.

digger, thanks for your reply. helpfull though slightly impractical as we are not in the position to use a behaviorist, my enquiries have found them to be very expensive relative to our income. maybe some one may have personal experience i could make use of.  long walks help keep her happy.  thanks
