I have been quoted £8.00 for a 15 - 20 minute home visit for my cat, does that sound a lot to you? all replies welcome.

A local vet nurse charges £6 per half hour to walk dogs. £8 for 20 minutes to be inside your house sounds extortionate. Whereabouts in the country are you?

Jeangenie I live in Bournemouth in the south of England, whereabouts in the country do you live if you dont mind me asking.

I'm in South Warwickshire, near Banbury, Leamington Spa and Stratford-on-Avon.

That does sound like a tad too much, have you tried ringing around different places? :)

We have two elderly Russian Blue housecats who are not very sociable and we pay someone £5 a day to come in and feed the cats, clean their litter etc etc.  She spends a little time with them if she can find them and she also cleans out and feeds the guinea pigs.

I would say £8 is a lot.

By the way we live in Surrey and most things are expensive here. LOL

melster122 did you find the person your self or did they advertise.

I was quoted this price from a professional pet carer, and at weekends they charge £9.50 a visit.
Christmas day, boxing day and new years day they charge double, which I think is very expensive.

Have you thought of asking your vets if they know of anyone?  In our vets they have a notice boards with lots of information.  I found our lady through word of mouth really.  We have a very good pet shop and she works for them.  She also walks dogs and sometimes housesits for people.

I did ask at my vets but they said sorry, but we cann't recomend anyone we are not allowed to, and they didnt have anything on their notice board.
So they were not much help.
I dont know what to do now, what would you do?

Have you looked at your local village/town newspaper, freebie, that often has independent dog walkers, pet shop windows or staff, local kennels/catteries etc?

Bear in mind that reputable trustworthy people who have access to your home will have to be vetted and insured by the agency/themselves etc so it ain't gonna be cheap as chips......

I use a company called PetPal.  They charge £7.50 per 30 minutes - Monday to Friday and £8.00 per 30 minutes at the weekend.  They initally come to your home and discuss everything and more (routine, where they are and aren't allowed in the house, where they normally go walking, meal times etc) and meet all members of the family (human and animal) before ever looking after any of your animals.  They will do almost anything you ask them to do, from walking the dog, feeding the cat and just providing human company to putting your rubbish out.  They also offer a facility for looking after your dog in their home rather than having to put them in kennels overnight for £17 per night.  Also, a nice touch is that they leave a 'report card' of how the animals were while they visited, what they did ie where they went on their walk and if they met anyone the dog knew! and exact times they arrived and left, but everytime I've used them, they've been longer than the 30 minutes at no extra charge.  I've only had to use them a few times, but they have been a lifesaver, and in emergencies, they will do anything they can to accommodate.

I paid £9 per day for my 2 cats to be at a boarding cattery so I would think that £8 is a little over the top. Do you not have a good neighbour who could look in on your cat?

I too use Petpals and love them and so do my dogs (a bit too much causing me small amounts of jealousy ha ha)  I can go away and chill out.

Can't you board him/her?  I only pay 4.04 per day for my cat and 5.04 per day for my dog at the kennels which includes food and walks.  They take them just for the day as well.  Your quote does sound a bit excessive just for 20 mins.  Maybe I'm in the wrong job :)
