Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / how old is the dog?
- By Guest [gb] Date 29.11.05 17:15 UTC
Hi i have been looking at a gsd in the rescue centre but they do not know how old he is.
Is there a way that you can tell' they say he is between 12/15 weeks old

Sorry dont know how to tell but does it matter??? to me 12-15 years is in the later years of life. in both cases the dog could go on for 5 years or 5 months. But I would think more of giving the dog a home for the last FEW years of life and if it lives more then thats good.
i personally would love to give an older dog a home for its final years and get it out of rescue but I work 3-4 days a week so would not be suitible.
Sorry this doesnt help much. Is there any reason why it would make a difference??? I wouldnt have thought so. If you would take on a 12 year old, a 12-15 year old wouldnt make too much difference as there are no guaruntees. you could loose the dog at the age 13. Or loose it at the age 19 like my mate lost a collie.
Sorry not much help
Lea :)

Had a hard day as now on crutches after a running injury.
12-15 weeks. I wouldnt worry at all about which one he is.
Why do you want to know???
Is there a reason it makes a difference????3 weeks isnt much of a difference???????
Lea (Who now wants to disappear very quickly because I didnt read the message properly :( )

Lea we are talking a 12 to 15 week old pup here, but in either case it makes not a lot of difference :D

Whetehr the pup is 12 or 15 weeks won't make much difference, though at such a young age I would have expected for them to make a better guess at age, as by 15 weeks you will be starting to loose baby teeth,a nd they will look more spaced out than they would at 12 weeks.

I don't really think theres a definate way. The teeth would kind of give you an idea. As teething can occur around the 15/16 week mark
