I currently have 3 labradors age 4, 3  & 1 all with me from 8 weeks, I am considering taking on 2 1/2 year lab (due to a marriage split - not mine) Can you give me some advice on the best way to introduce this new member as I have only ever had puppies. She has been use to living with other dogs but sadly the person who is taking them cannot take her as well.  Thankyou

Your best bet would be to take all the dogs to an area they don't visit regularly (and therefore don't regard as 'theirs') and if possible let them all off lead so long as there are no known dog to dog agression issues, allow them to meet and greet each other as they feel comfortable, let them play if they want to, then put them all back on lead and return together.

When it comes to introducing the dog to your other dogs at home, it would be best, if possible to take them all on lead to the back garden, then let them all off together - existing dogs first so long as they have already been introduced and are friendly to each other.

Good post :)  I had a friend's dog to stay for a couple of weeks and that's exactly how we worked things and it was absolutely fine.

The only other thing I would add is watch food issues - particularly after a couple of days when the newcomer has found her feet in a strange place ;)

Regards, Teri
