does anybody have an opinion on hi life adult and puppy pouches.  my dogs are so fussy and i would dearly love them to be eating only burns, but the only way i can get them to eat it is if i mix a pouch of hi life in with their burns.  i have tried mixing with nature diet but they wouldnt touch that.  if hi life is not highly regarded can anyone recommend a really good quality wet food that will make their burns more appealing to them, price is not a problem i just want to give them a meal that i know is good for them but also that they will eat.

Products such as High Life have certain additives put in them to retain their "fresh" looking contents.  Personally I would not touch it with a barge pole.

Fussy dogs are made not born, if you refuse to pander to their whims they will eat eventually, no dog has starved itself to death.

We are talking about animals that eat excrement, putrid flesh and who lick their own bottoms after all.

Dogs can go many days without eating, as long as they are drinking.

If you continue to search for what your dogs will eat (for a while) this quest will be unending and you will have created a rod for your own back.

Never had a fussy dog/cat or child.  In my house there are two choices, eat what is in front of you or go without.

It works very well.........

the ingredients listed are chicken & rice (30% min) turkey, pork, minerals.  thats it.  i really thought that sounded like quite a decent dog food.  surely they would have to list additives and colourings etc

What are the minerals and why are they there?

Bear in mind that additives only have to be mentioned on the label if they consist of more than a specific percentage.

Ask yourself how the contents remain moist?

It is not a vacuum packed food

Tohme, not all Hi-Life's food is the 'moist' variety. I certainly wouldn't feed any brand of semi-moist type dog food as they are packed full of cr*p.

The 'wet' pouches (obviously hermetically sealed) and tins are actually pretty decent quality dog food - no derivatives or artificial colours/preservatives if their website is to be believed (I've no reason to think otherwise) http://www.hilifepet.co.uk/dogfoods.aspx

Jilltee, the pouches are my second choice after Naturediet when I feed mine 'wet' dog food. The Hi-Life pouches look and smell just like the cooked Nature's Menu pouches, the only difference being that the Hi-Life doesn't give my dogs diahorrea like Nature's Menu does! I'd carry on if you and the dogs are happy with it.
