We are new to CD and will be collecting our new CKCS in a couple of weeks, she will be called Holly Starshine. Apart from taking her out to do her business when would it be suitable to take her out into the bigger world?

Hi puddin, welcome to the Forum :)

I take my pups out everywhere immediately they leave their breeder :)  Just carry her in your arms and let her get used to all the sights, sounds and smells that will be part of her every day future life with you and then when she's had her shot(s) and you begin to take her out on a lead for walks or go visiting / shopping / for a journey in your most common forms of transport etc nothing will frighten her ;)

Village shopping centres, outside shopping malls or supermarkets/DIY stores/garden centres/schools at playtime - these are all great ways of letting her see and hear all sorts of things.  Make an effort to go somewhere new(ish) every other day and 2-4 weeks later depending on her getting the all clear from the vet she'll be easy peasy :P

Good luck, and enjoy her - they grow up too darn quick! regards, Teri

Thanks Teri, that sounds great (and thanks for your welcome!).  I was worried that we should keep her 'under lock and key' - but I want to show her off to the world, so that everyone can share in her gorgeousness!  Our biggest worry really is that we have 3 established house-cats who are spoiled rotten; I desperately don't want to upset them, but I know that it's pretty inevitable for a while.  We've read quite a lot of advice on the forum over the last few days, and it seems that it could (hopefully) work out if we take it slowly.
Keep your fingers and all dogs paws crossed for us!

Hi there Teri,

Congratulations on your new addition to the family.  We too have a little Blenheim CKCS who is 10 weeks old on Wednesday.  His name is Flynn and he is absolutely fantastic . (As I type this he is having a funny half hour and running around everywhere).

I have been taking him everywhere with me and he seems to be taking it all in his stride.  He has been on several trips in the car to visit friends, he has been to school, down the high street, to the local park (all in my arms) etc etc.

We have two 14 year old housecats and so far so good.  One keeps away from him totally and utterly and the other has made it known that he should not get too close.  I was very very worried that the cats would have their noses put out of joint but although it is early days things seem to be going well.

Lots of luck with the new addition.  You won't regret it.  I can't imagine life without Flynn now. LOL

Hello to melster122,
Oh that's good to hear another success story - well, you know, maybe they're not hugging exactly, but at least no-one's left home!
I'll keep you informed,
Hugs to Flynn! :)
