Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Tri-coloured or blue roan and tan?
- By Guest [in] Date 27.11.05 16:37 UTC
Can someone perhaps enlighten me please on whether it is possible to obtain both blue roan and tri-coloured pups in the same litter?  Or would they be classed as blue roan and tan?

Many thanks

If you are talking about Cockers, then it is perfectly possible to get blue roan, blue roan & tan and black, white & tan (tricolour) puppies all in the same litter (these are 3 separate colours). To produce black, white & tan, both parents have to carry the "and white" gene as well as the "tan markings" gene. It may not be easy to distinguish blue roan & tans from black, white & tans until puppies are at least 3 weeks old (or even older).
