Hello everyone I have just brought home my gorgeous little pup, she is fantastic in every way, EXCEPT during the night she poos in her cage.  I know she is fit and well in every way and I let her out last thing at night, I also know it is unusual for a dog to dirty its own living area.  Any ideas from you would be greatly appreciated.  I have also moved her last feed earlier but this hasn't helped either.  It has gone on for a full week now!!!! Please help!!!!

How old is she? Don't expect a puppy younger than 12-14 weeks to have any chance of holding its bladder or bowels all night. If she's crated, you'll have to get up a couple of times during the night to let her out to relieve herself.

We've had experience of the exact same thing - you could smell it the minute you went onto the upstairs landing and by the time you'd got downstairs she'd done a little dance in it ready to be jumping all over you to say 'good morning!' (not pleasant but she couldn't help it - when they gotta go they gotta go at that age!).  Hopefully yours will be better able to hold its bladder and bowels soon and this period will swiftly pass - it just seems like forever when you're in it thats all!  Just ensure you take your pup out very last thing at night, atleast once during the night and then first thing in the morning before breakfast.  I used to do 11pm, 2am, 4:30am and 7am which worked a treat after a few days.  Then went to only doing 3 times much more spaced out, and after several weeks was able to drop the middle-of-the-night-venture-into-the-garden-in-me-jarmies one thankfully.  Of course there's bound to be some accidents but patience and perseverance will pay off.  Just remember, as with any training its about consistency :)  Also, make sure the puppy pad is at the back of the cage (furthest away from the door you use not only to let the pup out but also that you enter the room the crates in through as it will hopefully stop her paddling in her doo doo!)

:)
