We had done all the research into having a cavalier puppy so we went down all the right channels and finally we found a breeder who  had a little girl. We were all excited so off we went down to meet the family had spent about 3 hours being interviewed and felt so good and comfortable with the breeder. We then had to sign several documents which was absolutely fine as we felt they were " Responsible" breeders. The breeder was fully aware that in about 2/3 years we would love to have a litter from our little girl and they were fine as long as we had all the relevent tests done. So far everything had gone well kept in touch we did all the keeping in touch might I add but then again thats fine. About  couple months later she developed a problem with her eye so she had to have an operation. As she was coming up to her 2nd birthday we made an appointment to see a SPECIALIST a ophthalogist and cardiologist that is when we then found out she has  inherited MRD. We were shocked as the specialist had said as her problem was quite severe it should have been picked up at the checks when she was a puppy. But after all she was our princess so we decided to have her spayed so the appointment was made with the vets and that was that she had been spayed I know there we did the "  Responsible" thing. We did inform the breeder. However this is slightly confusing her sister has had a litter early this year now we were told by the specialist that this problem would be in the line and therefore I would like to know was this the reponsible thing to have done????

If her sister was eye tested free from MRD & bred to a dog also tested clear from MRD before your bitch was diagnosed with MRD the breeder was doing the responsible thing except that the veterinary advice is not to breed from dogs that are under 2 1/2 years of age
