My pointer loves to be covered up with a blanket when cuddled up in her bed. At night she often has to get up (mainly to do the flapping ears trick!) but can't get settled again because she is uncovered & cold. I have made a cocoon type bed which she can now manage to snuggle into by herself . I wonder if anyone elses dog has this problem & whether this "cocoon" bed idea of my is worth promoting?
My staffy has got to be in bed with us, he has to be under the covers though, he always has done since he was a puppy. If we had a bed like your maybe we would get a better night sleep as when he gots hot he gets out, then when he gets cold he wakes us up wanting back under the covers?
No but ive been told not to start covering your pup- cos once you start they hate it if it falls off and demand you come and tuck em in again! Obviously this is whats happening with your dog, i think if you make your cocoon bed work you'l get a better sleep, fingerscrossed xx

my puppy loves being covered up by a blanket.she sits by the radiator shivering like she's badly done to so i wrap her up.in the morning she likes an extra hour in bed under the duvet with her head on the pillow with my arms wrapped round her.in her own little bed on the floor she has her own blanket and a pillow.i also noticed when i took her outside and it was cold she'd just sit their shivering so i bought her a silver doggy puffa jacker with a hood and she loves it,not had a problem since!

hi there saga, this must be a pointer thing then as our beloved pointer of whom has now gone to rainbow bridge in september always had to get under the quilt on our bed, just like your's he used to get out now & again for a breather & a shake. then climb back in again..lol, such lovely characters pointers, i am toying with the idea of getting another next year, i miss him so much

One of our Labs is the same. Has to have his fleecy blanket right over him covering his head, then he will look out at you with the big doulful eyes, then down goes the head into the blanket and soon deep snores. The others like to be covered but soon kick them off!!!

Ours have pillows and covers when they go to beddy bye byes and they burrow underneath to the extent that you wouldn't know there were any dogs in there. Two or three love to climb inside the pillowcase for extra warmth as well!! Our oldest also wears a little baby gro, she loves it so much that she spends all day in it too
This made me laugh. You sound as potty as me!

One of my Dobes used to drive me mad trying to get under the duvet with me in the winter months. I got her a doggie sleeping bag from over-the-top (www.overthetop.co.uk) and she now sleeps in that, she manages to get inside herself with no problems. She is still on my bed but no longer tries to get in the bed with me!
hi
deffinately a pointer thing, mine will lie on top of my bed while I get sorted but as soon as i get in my bed she comes up to the top and lifts the blanket with her nose to get underneath and then goes right to the bottom. if I move, she jumps off and paws at the side of the bed for the cover to be lifted so she casn get under again. i tried ignoring that bit as in the middle of the night it can be very annoying, but after an hour, she was still going so i gave up and she sleeps under the covers all night. sometimes people wonder where she is, because she lies so flat, u can't see her!! very cute though

My GSD is quite the opposite. We bought her a nice fleecy vet bed to sleep on in her crate. She always snuggles up to go to sleep but 30mins later you can hear her shuffling about to sleep on the metal bed. She will however use it as a pillow. When I get up in the morning she is still sleeping on the metal. In the evenings I put on a living flame fire in the lounge to watch t.v but she will go into the hall to snooze as she is too hot.

My JRT makes a beeline for under the duvet as soon as he's allowed upstairs every morning. Once under there he snoozes away happily for ages completely covered up. Downstairs on his dog bed he's completely uninterested in sleeping under his own blanket though!

Hi again Thanks for all your interesting replies I have enjoyed reading~ some with a chuckle!
My pointer also, when running free on her own often barks & pesters me for her ball on a rope~ no--not for me to throw it for her (that she thinks is a waste of time) No she just wants to have it in her mouth as a form of pacifier ( dummy for babies thing!)
I could go on as I'm sure you can identify with me about all the funny little habits & quirky things that they do~it's rather much like another baby in the family. Only a bit smellier (only just) Regards saga.

My JRT is straight under the duvet on my bed and snuggled into the crook of my bent legs. He likes his comforts.
My 5 month old rottiex GSD is firmly on the floor though with a dog bed. No way am I having that big lump taking over the bed and pushing me out.

I can't imagine some of you getting a good nights sleep :).

Ah, that's why I'm hard hearted I am! First thing in the morning and last thing at night I'm happy to cope with a duvet diver. All night I'm not so Nips sleeps in the kitchen.

I'm only allowed to sleep with my dogs when my OH is away as one is a fidget and one snores! But last time I slept with them I woke up in the morning to find I'd been pushed to the other side of the bed and Henry was fast asleep with his head on my pillow!!! :-D
