Hi everyone,
I'm trying to 'kit my car out' to make it as safe as poss for the dogs... and myself. I've got 3 large dogs and at the moment if I need to take them altogether in the car I rely on my partner to travel alongside me as obviously they don't all fit in the boot. My intentions are to permanatley fold the back seats down and fit dog cages behind the front seats/alternatively fitting a dog guard behind the head rests so they have the back area?
I'm assuming that people who breed and show their dogs have their cars secured in this kind of way. I've seen the dog boxes in the back on some hatchback cars but obviously this only fits 2 dogs.
Any advice/ideas or links to websites that specialize in this area would be great.

We can get up to 5 setters in the back of our car,  It has a gaurd (well old tail gate strapped to the back seats) and a tail gaurd  made for the car.  This give maximum boot space and fit's all the dogs in :)

Have you thought about doggy seat belts (harnesses with short leads attached that clip on to your existing belts)?  That way you could have one or two of the dogs in the boot behind a guard and the other(s) safely strapped in the back seat :)

What an excellent idea.  Fitted car cages are the safest way to travel as they protect your dogs from going through the windscreen in the event of a crash, prevent dogs escaping should the windows break/doors open in a shunt etc, enable you to keep the doors and windows open should you need to when parked in hot weather, and protect the interior of the car from being destroyed (not to mention snotty windows) :D

I drive an estate and my back seats are down and the whole car is fitted out with a double cage, (could fit 4 cages in but my dogs spend a lot of time in the car so they travel in 5 star luxury) made to measure by barnesbrook (see link above).  Fabulous quality, rattle free and cheaper than a lot of makes.  Complete with lead hooks and escape doors.
