Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Price of crossbreeds?
- By Guest [gb] Date 22.11.05 09:55 UTC
I had a look in Loot today (on their website), and was astonished to see the price of a cross between a Jack Russell Terrier and a Chihuahua.....£400.  I can appreciate the price of a full Chihuahua, Jack Russell's not being too expensive, is this price acceptable?  At the end of the day, these puppies are cross-breeds.  Also they were advertised at 4 weeks old.  I am not a breeder, but I am a dog lover, I have two cross-breeds of my own.  Any remarks on this matter will be appreciated.

Some people will pay £1000 for a crossbreed :( Fools and their money hey!  I woudn't pay more the £100 for one from a rescue centre (at leasts then the money normally goes back to the dogs one way or another.

advertising at 4 weeks old is one thing but allowing them to go to a new home at that age is another, hopefully they will keep them with the mum til they are 8 weeks old.

Why pay the price of a full pedigree pup for what is basically a mongrel?  ;)  What health tests have the parents had?

You will find small breed pups in rescue too :)

Ludicrous price for a crossbreed, and an extremely iffy crossbreed at that I'd have thought. I've got an "uncrossed" JRT and for sure, he didn't cost me £400. But then it never occurred to me that the appropriate way to buy a dog was to consult the free ads either!

I hope they are not allowing the puppies to go to their new homes at only 4 weeks. I think cross-breeds should definately be under £100. I think the breeders (if you can call them that!) priority should be nice homes for the dogs rather than making money.

Please tell anyone thinking of getting one of these Cross breeds to first have a look on www.dogpages.org.uk.  There are literally hundreds of dogs and puppys (from 7 weeks old believe it or not :-( )  on there.  Im sure they could find a "cute" dog on there and they only cost approx £75.
