My 16 week old JRT is classically tri-coloured - mostly white although with two patches of black on his back, one around his tail the other a little further up. His mother was black and tan and his father white and out of a litter of four two were tri-coloured and two black and tan. Over the last week I've noticed a series of regular black "spots" of pigmentation appear under the white part of his coat. They're only tiny (smaller than a 5p piece) but are increasing. He's very healthy and energetic - quite "himself" in every way! - but what on earth can these peculiar black spots be? Have I got a Dalmation in disguise?
Hi there- it'll be from his mum probably and will develop more in time, my friends deaf dane is totally white, with blue eyes, yet she has developed 2 black spots on her legs- from her harlequin mum!
my mums jrt was the same, though she developed a few extra black spots most spots just stayed on her skin and the colour above them white.
its nothing to worry about :)

Thanks for the replies. He's in such RUDE health that I knew there was nothing actually wrong with him but I was surprised at the sudden appearance of this pigmentation. Oddly enough, the black spots seem to be increasing at a rate proportionate to the number of teeth he's currently missing! :)

It's just his 'freckles'. :) A lot of white dogs with patches have them.
My dog has some black spots of pigment in the skin on top of her muzzle, they appeared when she was younger. They're cute :)
