Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / cages at crufts
- By Guest [gb] Date 21.11.05 08:58 UTC
I was just reading my crufts schedule(from cover to cover) and noticed the bit about cages. Does anyone know if this means that soft crates cannot be used on the benches. It's so much easier to carry a soft crate than a cage

Soft crates can be used at Crufts :-)

Accordig to the rules soft cages cannot be used :)  It says something like "wire cages" (not sure exactly havn't got it in front of me.

Cages must also not be coverd, so dogs must be seen at all times...

However many do ot follow this rule :)  And again many people now have soft crates because they are easier to carry etc :)

I read it the same as ice queen -  no soft crates allowed - "permits dog cages on the benches provided that the cages have wire mesh on the front, sides and top and that the exhibits can be clearly seen."

If you download the schedule from fossedata.co.uk it has all the details regarding this in the rules and regulations.

So I think the rules say no but it's up to you if you stick to the rule!

I always use the soft cages at shows and do at Crufts.

Helps stop people sticking their hands all over your dog on his bench!

If you're not allowed fabric cages, my friend has got an alternative to carting a heavy wire cage around - she's taken the two ends of a child's fireguard to make a bench-front, put bungee cord up the sides, and clips down the middle so that it can be made wider/narrower according to size of bench.  I'm going to try this myself, as I've got an old fireguard in the cupboard!  Wonder if you can put those little laminated signs on like they do at cat shows 'please do not touch'!

Hilda, that was all the rage a while back ad you could buy them that clipped onto the bench pannels with extendable "arms" for different size benches.  They were a good idea! :)  Came about from the ffire gaurds I think! LOL

Hi Roxanne!
Probably before my time in showing!!!  I did find a place that sells them like ready-made, but they're something like £50!  I mean, you can get whole cages cheaper than that!
