I acquired a WHV four weeks ago and generally she is a joy to be around and I am completely besotted. However, there are a couple of things that I'm not sure how to go about dealing with. Firstly she won't sleep alone at night. For the first two nights I had her she was fine but now won't stay downstairs and whines and howls until I let her upstairs. Have I done the wrong thing by giving in or is her needing to be near me a breed characteristic that I have to live with? The second thing is what appears to be fear of strangers (mostly male) and anything rolled up (wrapping paper, newspaper etc). Usually this means that she growls or backs away and has wet herself a couple of times. I've made an assumption that at some point in her first year (she is a year old) she has been hit by a male stranger! Does anyone have any ideas what I can do please? All help much appreciated.
I am owned by 6 HWV's and have had the breed since 1996. If you would like to email me regarding the breed traits and temperament, I will be able to give you my experiences of the breed. leiborschy@btinternet.com Diane
