We'd like to feed our 5 month doberman pup on a mixture of Burns and Nature Diet. He'll be on 3 meals a day when we get him and we had planned to give half a pack of ND at lunch and half at dinner with Burns at breakfast.
Can anyone tell me how much we'd need to reduce the total amount of Burns by?
TIA
When you first get him I would keep him on his current food for a couple of weeks as everything else will be new to him - environment, water, people, rules etc.
Is Nature diet the lb frozen packs of meat? I can't remember how much I feed a 5 month old pup but if they look a bit thin I give them more and if a bit podgy I cut it down. I do know that my adolescent pups eat two or three times as much as the adults and this will also be governed by how active they are, some pups never seem to stop whereas others are more laid back.
In other words you should feed to your individual pup rather than what anyone else advises as you are the only one that can see him and what he will need :)

I weaned a litter of Dobe pups earlier this year on Naturediet and Burns minibites. I kept one of the pups and gradually reduced the Burns until she was just on ND (all my adult dogs are on ND alone). At 5 months she was having 3-4 packs of ND per day, spread over 3 meals (so 1 and a bit packs per meal). She is now 6 months and we have just changed onto the adult variety over 2 meals a day (as the adults) and she is currently having just under 3 packs a day.
Like Kerioak says, he should be kept on the food he is currently on and gradually introduce the ND/Burns over a period of about 10-14 days.
Thank you both for your replies.
He is currently on a part raw food diet and part hollistic kibble which is why I decided to do part ND and part Burns, as I'm just not ready for the challenge of raw feeding yet and felt this was an excellent compromise. I realise we have to change him over gradually.
Eventually we will change over to raw but would like to take our time with research etc I don't like rushing into anything and always read up on everything first.

If you are going to change over to raw then if it were me I would just keep the dog on Naturediet, not sure I see the point of feeding a vacuum packed complete meal with a dry complete meal?
