Hiya,
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on this one? I moved out of home last year but was unable to take my dog with me. Since that time my parents have taken to spoiling my poor girl rotten and now she's over-weight!! I've now got her back living with me again and have cut her food down. She's on Nutro-Light and gets walked twice a day. I was just wondering what is a healthy amount of weight for her to lose for example over a month? She's 25kg and when I left she was 21-22kg!!
How much food (what type-kibble or veg?) and exercise would you guys advise? I want to get her fit again but obviously dont want to push her too hard exercise wise just yet as she's not been used to it?
Any advice or even a 'fat-fighting plan of action' would be great!!!!
Thanks

hi D :-D

i had the same problem with my collie x boy

he is 11 1/ yrs old and weighed over 21kg vet said he could

benefit from loosing some weight so all i have done is continue

to feed him his normal food (i thought about giving him senior food

but decided to stick with what he was on) and all i have done is to add some

veggies pulped down to his food and reduce his in-take of his complete food

by 1/3rd he still gets fed twice a day and his normal walks

i have still to weigh him again but there is a noticable difference in him

no doubt so its gradually working for him :-D

hope that helps in some way ??

Same as you would a human.  healthy balance diet (light food!)  with extra exercise, slowly building it up!  does she like swimming?  If so and if you can afford it get her some hydrotheorpy lessons!

If she is scavenging for food then bulk out with low fat veg etc.

Good luck!

If you want to get fit aswell the two of your could take up jogging or something!!! :D

YOU could also try walking her a few more times a day (could be extra 10 mins 2x more per day) add in some off lead exercise and she'll soon start losing weight and getting fit :)

Be careful with some of the light foods. I put my bitch on Royal Canin adult light and she gained weight on it.
I now feed her normal dry food but far less and bulk up with vegetables and a small handful of branflakes. Her exercise had stayed the same (quite active doing agility on top of her walks) and she has slowly lost the weight over the last few months.
