is it just me or does 3800 - £1000 seem extortianate for a "blue" staffy pup?!?!?!? there are loads of blue pups circulating at the moment but how can they justify asking for so much to buy one?
obviously these ads are in the paper etc and arent from breeders, but are they taking the p**s or what? i love staffies and would like to own another in the future, but would i really have to be ripped off price wise to buy a blue? are there breeders who breed a blue colour? do they charge as much?
my mind boggles....

hi Nicki-Jo... there are some breeders who have blue pups available, unfortunately they seem to be of the more unscrupulous variety and I wouldn't touch them with a barge-pole!!
There is not a valid reason that I have heard for selling pups at that price.. they should be sold at 'normal' average price, IMHO.... but there you go... very sad...
problem is if there are people who will pay that sort of money then it will just continue to happen?

guess if you contact a reputable breeder and he'll put you on a waiting list for a specific color, it shouldn't be a problem....... most good breeders that breed for quality would never charge more for colors. I'd only charge different prices for different quality puppy in the same litter. Such as show or pet quality puppy.

I will be hoping for blue puppies next yr as I want another blue for showing.  I would not charge any more for them though :-(

A lot of blues I have seen are so far from the breed standerd they look like x-breeds & I dont see why they should be more expensive.

I also will not allow any of my pups be breed from untill they have had hips/eyes tested, over 2 yrs old & has done quite well show wise (At leaset get a 1st 2nd or 3rd at a champ show).

Hi Ory

Can you tell a pet quality puppy from a show quality puppy at 8 weeks?? Damn can you come round and choose which puppy will be the champ for me please lol.

Nope, I wish I could though ;) . But many breeders I know don't give puppies away that soon. They actually wait till they can be pretty sure to tell the difference between show or pet quality. Some things can be seen from the start though...... for example coloring of the puppy (with Papillons). Wrong coloring can be seen from day 1 and those are going to be sold as pets only for sure.
Unfortunately I was only speaking in general as I don't know anything about breeding Staffordshire Bull Terriers myself. i'm sure there are few breeders on this forum that might be able to say more about the subject! :)

hi all,

most of the blue staffs from 'unscrupulous' breeders as u call them are of irish staff breed and are not 1000 but around 650 i can supply u with a vast amount of REPUTABLE breeders of blues... both old time staff and irish thanks

a blue irish owner!!!

am I incorrect then about unscrupulous breeders cashing in on the 'rare' blue colour??  I think not....
some people think that the best blues come from litters where neither parents are blue.... it's not a fault but it is a dilution of genes ....and these pigmentation genes follow a path that may affect certain other genes ie neurological function, immunity function, even fertility.......
anyhow, I've no doubt in my mind that there are some very good irish stafford breeders out there who have bred the lines for 50 odd years or more.. but equally there are some 'dodgy' ones who cross a stafford and call it an irish stafford... very wrong.........
I still think you shouldn't have to pay more than £600 for a good example of a blue...
just my opinion...

My blue KC reg staffies sold for £450 - the same as their black brindle siblings!

Not all blue staffies are irish - mine is a lovely stocky 15 inches.

I would love to see more quality blue staffies at shows but a lot of blues are not a very good eample of the breed :-( .

I also agree a lot of people breed them for money thats why I endorse my pups untill certain conditions have been met!

Picture of my blue staff - she does not look great here though as she was still feeding her pups!

Will find a better one later
