Topic Dog Boards / Health / Vaccination reaction?

Should puppies be very sleepy after their first lot of injections? My father in law has a ten week old westie who has jut had his first jab today and has been very sleepy ever since. Is this normal behaviour or something more serious. I don't remember our dog doing this after his.

Some puppies can be mildly "off" for a few days after innoculations. Plus he's just had a "big experience" going to the vets, which would have tired him! Just keep an eye on him, he should be back to normal in a couple of days.

When my pup came home from his first vaccs at 9 weeks he promptly went zonko in his bed. I then made the big  mistake of Googling up "adverse reactions" and just as promptly went downstairs and diagnosed that he was in a coma. A couple of hours later the little devil was up and eating ankles with renewed energy. Some coma!! :)

And yes, it's the combination of the vaccination and the visit to the vet that tends to make 'em very sleepy - and possibly a bit out of sorts for a day or so - but it's not at all unusual so I wouldn't be too worried.

:D :D
We're all guilty of over reacting sometimes - a little knowledge .... and all that.
