my dog doesn't eat proper dog food shes a bit of a weirdo, we usually give her chicken or some left overs, but i was wondering how much fat a dog should eat?

Your dog's trained you well! Trust me, she'll eat proper dog food - and be a lot healthier - if she isn't offered anything else. A healthy dog won't starve itself - it's humans who usually give in after three days and the dog knows who's in charge - and it ain't the owner!

Hi, I know too much Turkey fat will kill a dog(it can cause Pancreatitis)...I'm sure some of the knowledgable folk on here will post a link for you!!?? :D

my dog has trained us all very well, im very obedient but shes so little and she doesn't eat much. i didn't know turkey fat could cause pancreatitis! i will definatly keep that in mind. It isnt the same with chicken though is it? because she loves chicken yum yum its my dads fault, i blame him, i wanted to give her dog food when she was a little puppy but he was just like a dog will eat wat it wants hehe

What breed of dog is she Cakerine?  Is she one of the tiny toy breeds?  If so can appreciate what you are saying as they will sit you out for a lot longer than 3 days - IF its the breed I am thinking of and which a friend of mine used to have.  Tiny they may be but they are convinced they are Gt Danes!

Why is it that people focus on turkey fat?

ANY diet that is too fatty, from whatever source, can cause health problems......................................

If you are only feeding meat your dog will be seriously deficient in calcium unless you also feed bones, raw ones that is.

People tend to focus on Turkey fat because many dogs are rushed into vet hospitals with bouts of pancreatitis. What do all these cases tend to have in common?? CHRISTMAS!.

These dogs get nothing but dry food all year and then christmas rolls around and they get a bowl full of rich turkey and gravy

Feeding turkey on a regular basis will NOT cause pancreatitis, however leave out the fat drippings and the ladels of gravy ;)

O dear! the poor doggies, that wouldn't be a nice christmas for them. ill certainly remember that at christmas and try and control my father giving her piles of turkey. she is a little tottiedog, cross yorkie jack russell, she doesnt actually think shes a big dog, she thinks shes a human! we give her mixer biscuits with her chicken :)

I'm minded to think that dogs don't actually need introducing to Christmas!!

But I wouldn't be too worried about the chicken, catherine (unless your Dad is giving her KFC!!) only my small dog doesn't eat "proper" dog food for his supper either and he's thriving on organic meat and poultry with mixer.
