We were advised to get a puppypen but we couldn't see where we'd have the room to put it, so we bought a large crate instead. It's the crate from Argos and is 50in X 21.5in X 24in (L x W x H) and is great for Holly. Whenever we're not in the room and she can't come with us she's put in her crate with a chew and her teddy bear.

PetsAtHome do sell puppy playpens but they're quite expensive, well I think they are, and I'm not sure how much use you'd actually get out of it in the long run.

Holly does a lot of things wrong but she's never chewed anything. She's eaten a couple of things she shouldn't have done but we've not had any teeth marks in the furniture etc.

Good luck with your puppy, they fill a hole in your life that you never knew was there.

Hi Chrissy,

Sorry for the delay in replying - I've been talking to my dad to see what differences there were between Holly and their puppy Ebony.

When we got Holly she was almost completely housetrained where as Ebony took weeks to understand. Holly has also slept downstairs in her crate from day one without any complaints or crying. Ebony howled so much my mum took her up into their room and she now only sleeps downstairs when we go to stay.

Holly didn't nip the children as much as Ebony did (Eloise was terrified of Ebony and we weren't sure if we'd be able to get a puppy at all), she'd been taught more manners by the breeder as she was one of 2 that were left at 12wks.

The major problems we've had have been Holly's nervous agression, this is now so much better but it was a problem for a while. It takes a bit for her to get used to strange situations. She also had problems with dogs that aren't black or golden as they were the colours that the breeder had.

We've never had a puppy before so I don't really know if the differences between Ebony and Holly would occur anyway or if they are because of the different ages of them.

Good luck with Douglas,

Fiona

Actually you will find that the Argos crate is 30 or 31 inches long by 21 wide by 24 high. This is fine for any breed up to a springer, just not quite tall enough for my breed which has prick ears, and around 19 to 21 inches at ther shoulder!

I know several people who have one and they are happy with it!

Hi Brainless,

I measured the crate with my trusty tape measure before I posted the measurements. This crate was bought at the beginning on March and is substantially bigger than the crate my parents bought in the middle of August.

The price was the same but the cages are very different.

I've just looked at the Argos website and was stunned to discover that they are now selling the smaller cage for the same price as mine. For once it looks as if I got a bargain!!
